Week 12: Saturday's Roundup

Hey, Danger Zaun. Play this kid.
Studs: Josh Beckett (E-3) struck out 8 and got the win in 7 shutout innings. Mike Leake and Corey Dickerson had outstanding performances on the bench for their respective teams, but we won't get into that.

Duds: Marlon Byrd (FF) went 0 for 4 with 3 Ks. Ian Desmond accepted that challenge and went 0 for 4 with 4 Ks.

Transaction: Ryan's Rangers move OF Angel Pagan to the bench and promote Jon Jay.

Week 12: Friday's Roundup

Yes, the Brewers were at Coors Field. What makes you ask?
Studs: The Brewers and Rockies played a classic Coors Field game, which led to plenty of standout performances. Jean Segura (AL) had 2 solo homers and an RBI single. Ryan Braun (RR) doubled twice, singled, stole a base and had 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Aramis Ramirez (Rookies) doubled, singled twice, drove in 3 and scored twice. Justin Morneau (Tanana) had a 3-run homer and a 2-run double. Seth Smith (PYB) doubled and hit two solo homers — way to not get guys on base, Padres. Jay Bruce (PYB) hit a 2-run homer, singled, scored 3 runs and stole a base. Freddie Freeman (AL) homered, singled twice and scored 3 runs.

Duds: It was freaky Friday for the NL's top closers. Aroldis Chapman (DZ) allowed 4 runs and took the loss. Kenley Jansen (RMH) gave up 3 runs, blew a save and took the loss. Craig Kimbrel (E-3) gave up a 2-run homer and blew a save. Matt Adams (RR) went 0 for 4 with an error. Anthony Recker (RR) singled but made an error.

Week 12: Thursday's Roundup

"The good news is that your UCL is intact. The bad news..."
In a remarkably dull day of baseball, no one met the standards for Studs OR Duds. But we'll open things up a little bit.

Studs: Zack Wheeler (DZ bench) scored 22 worthless bench points by shutting out the Marlins and striking out 8.

Duds: Gavin Floyd (free agent) struck out 6 and didn't allow a run in a 6-inning win, but he did strike out in all 3 of his at-bats and broke his elbow throwing a curveball.

Transaction: Pitch You Blockhead places 1B Yonder Alonso on the disabled list.

Misfits 107, Danger Zaun 104

Week 12: Wednesday's Roundup

First Josh Beckett, now Clayton Kershaw. Your turn, Zack Greinke.
Studs: Clayton Kershaw (FF) nearly threw a perfect game against the Rockies. Because of an error on shortstop Hanley Ramirez, Kershaw had to "settle" for a 15-strikeout no-hitter. That's a nice little 39-point outing in FBLG. Bartolo Colon (FF) struck out 1 (that's not a typo) and allowed 1 run in an 8-inning win. He also doubled and scored. If not for Kershaw's no-no, the blog would include a very jiggly animated GIF of that. Jake Arrieta (AL) doubled and struck out 11 while allowing 1 run in a 7-inning win. Marlon Byrd (FF) homered, singled twice, drove in 3 and scored twice. Starlin Castro (Tanana) doubled twice, singled, drove in 2 and scored 2 runs. Chris Owings (RR) was a homer short of the cycle, drove in a run and scored. Matt Kemp (Misfits) doubled twice, singled, drove in 2 and scored.

Duds: Tim Hudson (AL) gave up 7 runs on 12-hits in a 4.2-inning loss and didn't strike out anyone. Aaron Harang (Misfits) allowed 8 earned runs on 13 hits in a 5-inning loss. Miguel Montero (E-3) went 1 for 4 and dropped a foul ball. Curtis Granderson (E-3) went 0 for 1 with 3 walks and was caught stealing. Way to drive him in, Mets.

Transactions: In a cute game of musical chairs, Ryan's Rangers move Bronson Arroyo to the DL in place of Gio Gonzalez, who moves to the rotation in place of Chase Anderson, who moves to the bench.

Scores

Ryan's Rangers 88, Rookies 55
Misfits 93, Danger Zaun 77
Tanana in the Tailpipe 86, E-3 68
Fresh Fish 138, Arbitration Losers 105

Week 11: The Check Swing

Seriously, call Kenny Loggins 'cause you're in the...
My apologies for the brief Check Swing this week. It was a bit of a rough weekend in Las Vegas (and not in a good way). I hope to resume the series' awesomeness next weekend.

1. E-3 (1,935 points, 7-4, last week 2): Forty-two points from Andrew McCutchen? No wonder Adam's team put up 205 points to take over the top spot.

2. Ryan's Rangers (1,912 points, 7-4, last week 1): Bill's team posted only 93 points, and 14 of them came from Matt Adams — who was on the DL until Friday.

3. Danger Zaun (1,890 points, 4-7, last week 4t): The offense finally came through for these guys, who might be able to claw their way into the postseason after all.

4. Fresh Fish (1,861 points, 4-7, last week 3): It's Danny Espinosa time again at second base for Rick's team. Can Craig Counsell be far behind?

5. Tanana in the Tailpipe (1,855 points, 6-5, last week 6): Now Christian Yelich is hurt? Do we need to quarantine Matt's locker room to keep this from spreading?

6. Pitch You Blockhead (1,846 points, 7-4, last week 4t): Last week, we praised the rotation. This week, it posted 27 points in 6 starts.

7. Rocky Mountain High (1,826 points, 5-6, last week 8): Yasiel Puig was Jon's only player who failed to reach double digits in a tough loss to E-3.

8. Arbitration Losers (1,770 points, 5-6, last week 7): Emilio Bonifacio to the rescue at second base! Oh, he's on the DL too now? Never mind.

9. Rookies (1,749 points, 5-6, last week 9t): Thirty points from Evan Gattis? There are catchers in FBLG who haven't scored that many points since April.

10. Misfits (1,728 points, 5-6, last week 9t): Reid's team scratched out a victory despite Michael Wacha and Sergio Romo combining to score minus-10.

Week 11: Sunday's Roundup

Troy Tulowitzki managed to avoid injuring himself with this move.
Studs: Madison Bumgarner (Misfits) hit a solo homer, brought in a run with a bunt, struck out 9 and allowed 4 runs in a 7-inning no-decision. Troy Tulowitzki (RMH) hit a 2-run homer, singled twice and scored twice. Todd Frazier (DZ) doubled, homered and drove in 4. Billy Hamilton (DZ) homered again, singled twice, scored twice and drove in 2.

Duds: Andrelton Simmons (Rookies) and Dee Gordon (E-3) each went 0 for 4 with an error. Wilin Rosario (Misfits) went 0 for 5 with an error. Martin Prado (PYB), Pedro Alvarez (RMH) and Jean Segura (AL) each had 1 offensive point negated by an error.
