We Have a New Blog Site

Sorry, Deka.

Due to the incessant carping of one-half of the commissioners about the infernal Blogspot, we have a new blog site. We have literally no idea if it will be any better, but at least Rich won't have to read Deka's increasingly angry texts every Monday. We'll keep this site around in case we need to run screaming back to it.

New site: https://fblgcommish.wixsite.com/fblg

Or hop right into the blog at: https://fblgcommish.wixsite.com/fblg/blog

Positive feedback is welcome. Negative feedback can be sent to the Giants fans in the league.

Week 6: The Check Swing

Edwin Diaz posted a zero for Tears In Nevin — and outscored 3 other FBLG closers in Week 6.

We're back after a one-week absence with another underwhelming look back at the week that was in FBLG. We're keeping this a little shorter than usual because some of us are swamped in our day jobs and need to catch up on our beauty sleep. And away we go...

Adam Frazier leads the NL in hits and is
second in doubles. Yes, really.
1. Tears In Nevin (Rich/Brian, 5-1, 1263.33 points, previously 1): The Dodgers-loving commishes eked out a win against Giants-loving rival Tim and remain atop the rankings. Congrats to Pablo Lopez for finally picking up his first win of the season; less congrats to Edwin Diaz, who pitched once and stunk. Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and "Corey" Pavin Smith all reached the 20-point mark. The bad news for the commissioners is that Corey Seager has a hand fracture and is out for at least a month. Maybe he and Mike Soroka can rehab together!

2. Project Mayhem (Bill, 4-2, 1144.67 points, previously 2):
Speaking of close ones, PM barely squeaked out a win against SCC. Jesse Winker was the leading scorer and continues to be one of the best hitters in the league. Gavin Lux and Anthony Rizzo chipped in with strong performances, and Trevor Bauer led the pitching staff with a stellar outing. Joe Ross was lousy, costing his team 2 points by getting rocked by Arizona. Anthony DeSclafani was one of many San Francisco reclamation projects who pitched well in Week 6.
This is what a Philadelphia
catcher should look like.

3. Lumber Co Lumber (John, 4-2, 1137.33 points, previously 3):
In the battle of "We Are Family" bragging rights, John came away the victor against his son, Ray. The LCL offense alone outscored The Misfits and The Rookies in Week 6. Eight hitters scored at least 12 points, led by hit machine Adam Frazier. Jake Cronenworth keeps showing up in this weekly blog, which means he's probably better than we've given him credit for. On the mound, Luke Weaver didn't allow a run in two starts, but closers Brad Hand and Jake McGee each put up negative numbers. Stupid lefties.

4. Sunshine Carpet Cleaners (Jack, 3-3, 1119.84 points, previously 4): The pitchers came to play for Jack, but the hitters ... well, some of them showed up. Taijuan Walker was good again, Max Scherzer looked like his old self, and Josh Hader locked down a couple more Milwaukee wins. At the plate, Garrett Hampson and Avisail Garcia hit a pair of homers each and were SCC's leading hitters. But Justin Turner and Charlie Blackmon were mired in single digits, and the Philly catcher duo of J.T. Realmuto and Andrew Knapp tallied only 4 points. Where have you gone, Darren Daulton?

Dinelson Lamet (right) plays a board game against
a short, stocky bald man.
5. Jon Voight's Car (Adam, 1-5, 1065.33 points, previously 5): Every year in FBLG, there's one team that gets hosed by the scheduling gods and faces an opponent that goes off every damn week. This year, that team is JVC. Adam's team had a decent week but still lost by 64 points. JVC's leading pitcher was closer Alex Reyes, who collected a win and a save with 9 Ks in 4 innings. Marcus Stroman and Tyler Anderson were meh, and Dinelson Lamet is still covered in bubble wrap. Nick Castellanos and David Peralta combined to put up 50.5 points, but where was anyone else? Francisco Lindor? Eric Hosmer? Hello?!?

6. The Misfits (Reid, 2-4, 1037.67 points, previously 7):
In our low-scoring Jets-Jaguars battle of the week, The Misfits fell 145.83-143.5 to The Rookies. Other than Adam Wainwright and his minus-3, Reid's pitching staff performed well, led by Kyle Hendricks and Julio Urias. Jean Segura had a decent week at the plate but threw it all away — ahem — by making 4 errors. Catcher Will Smith hardly did anything but was far and away the better of the two Will Smiths in Week 6. Raimel Tapia was Reid's leading hitter, which reflects poorly on Mookie Betts, Kris Bryant and Javier Baez.
Mumford and Sons called. They said you can keep it.

7. Boogie Oogie Penny Ponies (Matt, 4-2, 1035 points, previously 8):
BOPP was outstanding in almost every conceivable way in a 227.17-point performances. Nice of Wade Miley to crap all over whatever good will he got by throwing a no-hitter; Miley posted a minus-3 in Week 6. Twenty points from Logan Webb? Thirty-four from Freddy Peralta? That's good stuff! Not to mention Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Manny Machado and Ryan McMahon all surpassing 20 points each. Even Joc Pederson is hitting now!

8. The Rookies (Henry, 3-3, 1026.33 points, previously 6):
We don't really know what to make of The Rookies' performance in Week 6. Tyler Mahle was the leading scorer with 25.33 points across a pair of starts. Zack Wheeler pitched well in a no-decision, and John Gant did the same but with far worse hair. Huascar Ynoa was awful, and Craig Kimbrel blew a save and took a loss. Josh Rojas and Dansby Swanson made a pair of errors each and didn't really hit enough to make up for them. Tyler Naquin was the leading scorer, which is OK I guess. Right behind him were Travis Shaw (eye roll) and Eugenio Suarez, who had only 3 hits, but it was 2 homers and a double.
Tim got a hot lead on some Giants prospects
his fellow FBLGers haven't heard about yet.

9. Arbitration Losers (Tim, 1-5, 1010.33 points, previously 10):
Tim came oh-so-close to earning his second win of the season, but he just had too many Giants on his roster. Word on the street is that he's dumping Trevor Story, Nolan Arenado and Blake Snell and signing Jeffrey Leonard, Jose Uribe and Mike LaCoss. Somehow, in a matchup in which TIN closer Edwin Diaz scored zero points, AL had the crappier closer: Will Smith managed to cost his team 3 points. Alex Wood and Kevin Gausman combined for 52 points, which just doesn't make any damn sense because we've seen those guys pitch.

10. Clemente's Bucs (Ray, 3-3, 981.83 points, previously 9):
This team won't be in last place for long if it has more weeks like this. Despite the loss, CB put up some crooked numbers. Patrick Corbin — fresh off the waiver wire — and Brandon Woodruff were outstanding, and closer Richard Rodriguez is just rolling along. The leading hitters were Bryce Harper and Tucker Barnhart? Hmm, OK. Even our favorite target Victor Robles performed well for a change.

Week 6: Sunday Roundup

He's not as good as his cousin Nolan Arenado, but the Rockies don't deserve someone that good anyway.

Anyone who's ever had Jacob deGrom on their team is nodding, sadly and slowly.

  • Zack Wheeler (R) threw a shutout - a real, 9-inning one! - with 8 strikeouts.

  • Jon Gray (SCC) struck out 8 and allowed 2 runs in a 6-inning win.
  • Max Fried (M) came off the ILL to strike out 6 in 5 1-run innings and win.

  • Josh Harrison (CB) walked and erred.

Week 5: Monday Roundup

So here's JT Realmuto, who did hit one into the next county, looking at your girlfriend.

Week 4: The Check Swing

Apparently, chicks do dig the long ball. Especially if you hit 4 in a week like Kris Bryant.

After not allowing a run in spring training, Daniel Bard
has an ERA of 9.00 in the regular season. Even for a
Rockies pitcher, that's lousy.
1. Tears In Nevin (Rich/Brian, 3-1, 898.17 points, last week 1): Despite injuries to important players (LOL at considering Jazz Chisholm, Omar Narvaez and Brandon Nimmo important), the commishes cracked the 200-point barrier and led FBLG in scoring in Week 4. The pitching was a strength, with the starters going 3-1 — including 2 wins from Marlins! But poor Pablo Lopez over there is still 0-2 with a 2.34 ERA. At the plate, Max Muncy did nothing but walk and get stranded; meanwhile Chris Taylor was scoring left and right (giggidy!). The commishes also got 16.5 points from whatever the hell a "Pavin Smith" is.

2. Project Mayhem (Bill, 2-2, 820.17 points, last week 2): You could easily split the PM roster into 2 camps: guys who showed up in Week 4, and guys who went to the strip club instead. Daniel Bard went 1-1 while allowing 5 runs in 1.1 innings, so you know where he falls. Same with Gavin Lux (4 points), the shortstop tandem of Didi Gregorius and Brandon Crawford (5 points), and the third-base tandem of Austin Riley and Evan Longoria (5.5 points). Jesse Winker and Ronald Acuña Jr. brought it with the bat — yes, again — and Yu Darvish, Trevor Bauer and Anthony DeSclafani pitched well but went only 2-2. No wonder PM lost to the Penny Ponies.

No, not in the face!
3. Lumber Co Lumber (John, 3-1, 785.5 points, last week 3): John's and Ray's teams were the two lowest-scoring FBLG squads in Week 4, but we're not going to make a Pirates joke at their expense. Haven't they been through enough? Regardless, LCL took its first L of the season and handed JVC its first W of the season. Funny how that works. Aside from the steady Brad Hand, LCL pitchers allowed 15 runs in only 19.2 innings, which just isn't enough. On offense, only 5 batters reached double figures in scoring — and 2 of them were Pirates! Oop, guess we're making a Pittsburgh joke after all. At least Marcell Ozuna is mashing again!

4. Sunshine Carpet Cleaners (Jack, 2-2, 768.84 points, last week 5): The Cleaners had a good week, putting up 184.33 points, but it wasn't enough in a matchup against TIN. Garrett Hampson led the offense with 18 points, but you don't really want Garrett Hampson leading your team in anything.  Fellow Rockies Charlie Blackmon and C.J. Cron also performed well, which means Colorado was probably playing Arizona. (Yup, they were.) Fernando Tatis Jr. made only 1 error, which counts as a victory. Speaking of victories, Max Scherzer had the only one for the SCC pitching staff, which allowed 20 runs in 36.1 innings. We assume an Angels fan like Jack would be used to that.

Sorry, Vince. We like your kid more.
"Here comes the money!"
5. Jon Voight's Car (Adam, 1-3, 761.17 points, last week 4): You haven't truly become a FLBG owner until you see your 2 LOLMets starters combine to allow 1 earned run in 11 innings with 17 strikeouts — and go 0-2. Speaking of LOLMets, Francisco Lindor put up a whopping 4 points, which isn't too great for a second-round pick. Or any pick, if we're behind honest. Nick Castellanos (31 points) and David Peralta (22.5 points) carried the load by scoring more than half of JVC's offensive points. Keston Hiura had his version of a perfect week, negating his single and run scored by making an error and posting a zero. Atta kid, Keston.

6. The Rookies (Henry, 1-3, 723.67 points, last week 9): The Rookies joined the ranks of the living by squeaking past AL in a high-scoring duel. Ozzie Albies had a huge under-the-radar week, with 7 of his 11 hits going for extra bases. Dansby Swanson was second among Rookies hitters, but he still has a stupid name. James McCann, who is slashing .215/.282/.262, has scored 23 points all season and is the latest in a long line of LOLMets catchers we can make fun of all season. The pitching was mostly mediocre, but the double starts from Zack Wheeler, Tyler Mahle and Ian Anderson gave Henry just enough extra points to pick up the win.

We're gonna miss that big orange mop on the mound.
7. The Misfits (Reid, 2-2, 722.17 points, last week 8): Reid's offense went off in a blowout win against the Bucs. And some of it doesn't make sense. Raimel Tapia with 18.5 points? Will Smith with 20.5? Tyler O'Neill with 27? Oh, come on! Kris Bryant with 33? OK, that makes sense, actually. Imagine the output if Mookie Betts and Javier Baez had joined the party. On the mound, Julio Urias fanned 16 in 12 innings while picking up a win. But it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows: Dustin May's elbow snapped, and Kyle Hendricks is serving up taters like he works at McDonald's.

8. Boogie Oogie Penny Ponies (Matt, 3-1, 702.33 points, last week 7):
Yes, we really do have a 3-1 team this far down the rankings. Disgusting, isn't it? The BOPP pitching staff was, quite frankly, terrible in Week 4. Oh sure, Mark Melancon and Freddy Peralta earned a save and a win, respectively, but look at the rest of these schlubs. Zach Eflin, Austin Gomber and German Marquez combined to go 0-3 with 20 runs allowed in 18.1 innings. Of course, it is 2 Rockies and a guy who sometimes pitches like one. Anyway, BOPP picked up a win behind the strength of the lineup, which was led by Trea Turner and Rhys Hopkins. Ryan McMahon — our third-favorite McMahon behind Ed and Shane — had another strong week as well.

Austin "Goomba" Gomber.
9. Clemente's Bucs (Ray, 2-2, 680.83 points, last week 6): Ray's club tried pretty hard to fall into the basement in Week 4. The Bucs' pitching staff allowed 21 runs in 27.1 innings, which explains the low point total. Former Pirates legend (ahem) Charlie Morton allowed 9 runs in 10.2 innings but picked up CB's only win of the week. With 18 points, Tommy Edman was the leading hitter. Alec Bohm and Josh Harrison also hit well but did some Offermanian work with the glove, making a pair of errors each. Bryce Harper got plunked in the face and missed some time, and Victor Robles put up only 6 points. Is it too soon for another Drew Stubbs reference?

10. Arbitration Losers (Tim, 1-3, 678.17 points, last week 10):
Tim's offense had a big week. Except for turds Wilmer Flores (Giant), Alex Dickerson (Giant), Adam Duvall (former Giant). But 5 Losers scored at least 18.5 points as the offense totaled 130 points. On the pitching side, the lack of double starts really hurt but makes the team point total of 182.67 even more impressive. Hey, good for Blake Snell for actually completing 5 innings! Sadly, the same can't be said for Aaron Sanchez. And we're not sure exactly who JT Brubaker is, but he sounds like a NASCAR driver from the 70s.

Week 4: Sunday Roundup

AJ Pollock had quite a day on Reid's bench Sunday.

STUDS

  • Chris Taylor (TIN) had 3 singles, a walk, and scored 5 runs, the most for a Dodgers player since Shawn Green's legendary 4-homer game in 2001.
  • Max Scherzer (SCC) shut down the Marlins' double-A team, striking out 9 and allowing 1 run in a complete game win. Seriously, look at that lineup.
  • Kevin Gausman (AL) continued his infuriating success, striking out 6 and allowed 1 run in a 6-inning win.
  • Kris Bryant (M) homered twice, doubled and drove in 3. And erred.
  • Julio Urias (M) struck out 10 and allowed 1 run in a 7-inning win.
  • Nick Castellanos (JVC) homered twice, singled 3 times, scored 4 runs and drove in 4.

DUDS

  • Eduardo Escobar (TIN) lived up to his initials with a pair of E's, adding an RBI double.
  • Edwin Diaz (TIN) gave up 3 runs and struck out 1 in 0.2 innings before leaving with an injury.
  • Craig Kimbrel (R) took the loss without getting any outs or allowing any earned runs.
  • Daniel Bard (PM) allowed 4 runs in 0.1 innings to take the loss.
  • Tejay Antone (LCL) allowed 4 runs in 1.1 innings, striking out 1 and blowing a save.

Week 4: Saturday Roundup

Sorry, Nolan. This is how it goes when you join the Cardinals.

STUDS

  • Nolan Arenado (AL) was a homer shy of a cycle, adding a walk, 2 runs and 3 RBIs.
  • Trevor Story (AL) was #tripleshy, driving in two, walking and scoring 4 runs.
  • Michael Conforto (AL) homered, doubled, scored twice and drove in 3.
  • Blake Snell (AL) struck out 6 and allowed 1 run in a 5-inning win.
  • Alec Bohm (CB) homered, singled twice, scored twice and drove in 2.
  • Raimel Tapia (M) had 4 singles, 3 runs and an RBI.
  • Paul Goldschmidt (LCL) doubled, singled twice, walked, drove in a run and scored 4 times.
  • Jack Flaherty ()JVC) struck out 9 and allowed 3 runs in a 6-inning win.

DUDS

  • Wil Myers (LC) walked and was caught stealing.

Week 4: Friday Roundup

Freddy Peralta shut down the Dodgers on Friday. Big deal — everyone shuts down the Dodgers these days.

Week 4: Wednesday Roundup

Admit it: it's hard to keep track of all the random young Cardinals outfielders.
(We think) this is Tyler O'Neill; he's the one with tattoos.

STUDS

  • Freddie Freeman (TIN) was #tripleshy, adding a second single, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, and one embarrassing strikeout against Anthony Rizzo's 61-mph... something.
  • Ozzie Albies (R) was #tripleshy with 2 runs.
  • Clayton Kershaw (TIN) struck out 8 in 7 shutout innings to earn the win.
  • Tyler O'Neill (M) homered, singled twice, walked and stole a base.

DUDS

  • Kyle Hendricks (M) allowed 7 runs and struck out 3 in a 3.2-inning loss.
  • The Mets (METS) allowed Jacob deGrom to lose 1-0 again.

Week 4: Tuesday Roundup

The chances to feature Rockies here are so few and far between.

  • Ian Anderson (R) - old Locomotive Breath himself - struck out 8 in 7 shutout innings for the win.
  • Trea Turner (BOPP) hit 2 solo homers.
  • Jesse Winker (PM) was #triple shy with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

DUDS

  • Josh Harrison (CB) singled, was caught stealing and erred.
  • Alec Bohm (CB) erred.

Week 4: Monday Roundup

"You mean-a I get-a to face-a da Rockies offense? Aaaaayyyyyyy."

STUDS

  • Anthony DeSclafani (PM) struck out 9 in a shutout win.
  • Corey Dickerson (TIN) was #tripleshy with 3 RBIs.
  • Trevor Rogers (TIN) continued to be the best pitcher no one has noticed, striking out 7 in 6 shutout innings to take down Corbin Burnes and the Brewers.
  • Zack Wheeler (R) struck out 9 and allowed 1 run in an 8-inning win.
  • Buster Posey (AL) was #tripleshy, adding another single, 3 runs and 3 RBIs.
  • Rhys Hoskins (BOPP) had 2 solo homers.

DUDS

  • Kenley Jansen (M) allowed 1 run and took the loss in 1 inning, striking out a batter.
  • Austin Gomber (BOPP) - more like Goober, amirite? - struck out 3 and allowed 9 runs in a 1.2-inning loss. And he wasn't even pitching at Coors.
  • Keston Hiura (JVC) singled and - wait for it - erred. He and Fernando Tatis should start a club together.

Week 3: The Check Swing

Get up, ya lazy bum. We're not paying you millions of dollars to sit on your ass.
1. Tears In Nevin (Rich/Brian, 2-1, 689.5 points, last week 1): Our points leaders didn't just crap the bed in Week 3, they also pissed and barfed in it. In other words, just a regular Saturday night for Tony La Russa. While getting thumped by Clemente's Bucs, the TIN pitching staff posted a pathetic 35 points, going 1-4 in only 25 innings. Remember when it was fun having a bunch of Dodgers hitters? Turns out it's not so great when the L.A. offense dries up. Speaking of drying up, we miss the old Andrew McCutchen. And hey, shouldn't Freddie Freeman be posting more than 3 points in a week? That's 16 points fewer than Mariners legend Omar Narvaez, who led TIN hitters in scoring.

To us, there can be only one
outfielder named Reynolds
in Pittsburgh.
2. Project Mayhem (Bill, 2-1, 664.5 points, last week 3): Despite a loss to The Misfits, PM performed well enough to move up a spot in the power rankings. Speaking of power, Jesse Winker led Bill's offense with 3 homers and 27 points. Anthony Rizzo and Willson Contreras combined for 34.5 points as the Cubs continued to put up plenty of runs. Ronald Acuña Jr. came off the IL but hasn't done anything since returning. The pitching staff was pretty good — Anthony DeSclafani had a mediocre outing, but Zac Gallen, Trevor Bauer and Yu Darvish were excellent in going 3-0 in four starts. Too bad Daniel Bard only pitched one inning for the Rockies; it turns out you don't actually need a closer if you don't win any games.

3. Lumber Co Lumber (John, 3-0, 652.83 points, last week 2): Thanks to a dramatic 154.83-154.5 win against The Rookies, LCL became our last undefeated team. Aaron Nola and Joe Musgrove looked great (again) as a two-headed ace monster, but the staff drops off dramatically with relievers David Price and Tejay Antone putting up paltry numbers so far. Brad Hand picked up a couple of saves without striking anybody out, which is the most lefty thing possible. A cast of thousands (OK, maybe just 12) combined for a solid week on offense. Paul Goldschmidt and Bryan Reynolds were the top boppers, but J.D. Davis made three errors at third base and set us up for the way-too-easy Pedro Alvarez joke. But hey, if you can win with Juan Soto and Marcell Ozuna combining for 8 points, more power to you.

The Padres' team doctor has examined
Dinelson Lamet and says everything's fine.
4. Jon Voight's Car (Adam, 0-3, 593.67 points, last week 4): Let's list the reasons it sucks to be Adam. JVC hasn't put up fewer than 175 points in a week, and the team is winless anyway. The LeBarons lead the league in points allowed, so they're getting hosed by the schedule maker. And Adam just got thumped by his brother's team — his younger brother, no less. Regardless, there was plenty to like in Week 3 for JVC. David Peralta drove in 11 runs while scoring 31.5 points. Jacob deGrom had another incredible outing, and Jack Flaherty looks like a stud again. Alex Reyes picked up a pair of saves and seems to be another annoyingly effective St. Louis closer. Dinelson Lamet lasted 29 pitches before the piece of string holding his elbow together snapped, but for some reason the Padres think he might be OK. They have years of experience with disabled pitchers, so we'll trust them.

5. Sunshine Carpet Cleaners (Jack, 2-1, 584.5 points, last week 8): When your pitching staff posts 104.33 points, you're going to win most of the time. Jon Gray and Taijuan Walker went 3-1 and pitched well in their double-start weeks, and Max Scherzer and Walker Buehler did their usual thing. Josh Hader went three for three in saves, too. Fernando Tatis Jr. came off the IL and tormented the Dodgers by hitting 5 homers; he scored 34 points for the week. He also made two more errors — watching him throw these days is like watching a train roll past knowing it's going to derail. Charlie Blackmon apparently stinks now, and after a hot start, Avisail Garcia remembered that he's Avisail Garcia.

It's simple, Kyle. You're too skinny to hit now.
6. Clemente's Bucs (Ray, 2-1, 557.5 points, last week 7): CB's hitting wasn't actually that much better than TIN's (108.5-103.5), but the pitching was miles better (73-35). Brandon Woodruff, Jake Arrieta, Chris Paddack and Charlie Morton allowed five runs in 34 innings, striking out 40 batters and going 3-2. This blog recently asked when Bryce Harper and Pete Alonso would start raking; apparently, the answer was "Week 3." The NL East sluggers combined for six homers and 48.5 points. If we had to pinpoint a negative or two, it'd be Amir Garrett's struggles and Victor Robles' impression of Drew Stubbs.

7. Boogie Oogie Penny Ponies (Matt, 2-1, 542 points, last week 5): If there's one word to describe BOPP, it's "confusing." When did Mark Melancon become the most reliable closer in the NL? Is Luis Castillo an ace or a replacement-level disaster? Is Freddy Peralta a starting pitcher or not? Why are pitchers continuing to walk Carson Kelly? Is there a more punchable face in baseball than Manny Machado's? How is Mike Yastrzemski so good? When did Ryan McMahon become an above-average hitter? Why can't Kyle Schwarber hit anymore? How good would German Marquez be if he pitched for literally any other team?

8. The Misfits (Reid, 1-2, 532.83 points, last week 10): Whoa, what got into Reid's team? The Misfits came close to the 200-point mark, thanks to almost 90 points from the pitching staff. The Dodger duo of Julio Urias and Dustin May struck out 29 hitters in 18 innings, and Adam Wainwright forgot what year it was and struck out 10 himself. Kenley Jansen picked up a couple of saves, and Kyle Hendricks won a game in classic Hendricks fashion. On offense, Raimel Tapia led the scoring with 20 points (I double-checked this like six times, I swear). Kris Bryant and Javier Baez each put up 17 points in the aforementioned good week for the Chicago offense. We're willing to overlook catcher Will Smith's 5-point stinker because of his cool name.

Our favorite Civil War general
has been working on a sweet
beard this season.
9. The Rookies (Henry, 0-3, 532.67 points, last week 6): The Rookies needed just a little more hitting to slip past LCL and get in the win column. In a week with no double starts, Henry's staff put up an impressive 68 points by going 2-0 with a save and only four runs allowed (all by Zack Wheeler) in 27 innings. In other words, Corbin Burnes, Ian Anderson and Tyler Mahle were outstanding. It was a different story at the plate, with only Dylan Carlson (22.5 points) and Jonathan India (11 points) reaching double digits. Eugenio Suarez and Ozzie Albies have to start hitting at some point, right? Not even war hero and gangrene survivor Brigadier General Dansby Swanson could rescue our resident Braves fan.

10. Arbitration Losers (Tim, 1-2, 495.5 points, last week 9): We're not sure how ESPN calculates these sorts of things, but the Worldwide Leader in Sports gives Tim's team a 0 percent chance of making the FBLG playoffs. That's pretty bad for a team that's currently in fourth place in its division — and thus, holding a playoff spot. Anyway, Tim's offense kinda stunk in Week 3, putting up only 76.5 points despite a team-leading 23 from Trevor Story. Buster Posey (14 points) was the only other hitter in double digits. On the mound, Kevin Gausman was impressive in a pair of outings, going 1-0 with only 1 run allowed and 16 Ks in 14 innings. We eagerly await Tim's "nobody believed in us" speech.

Week 2: The Check Swing

Sometimes we like to go beyond silly Pedro Alvarez jokes and bring you some actual baseball knowledge.
1. Tears In Nevin (Rich/Brian, 2-0, 551 points, last week 1): The commishes opened up a sizable lead in Week 2, and it's easy to see why. TIN leads FBLG in walks, runs, RBIs, innings pitched and strikeouts. These guys also are second in homers and singles, and are fourth in doubles. Sonny Gray came off the DL, which should bolster the pitching staff and send one of those many Marlins to the bench. Freddie Freeman's bat awakened, and Brandon Nimmo sprayed singles all over the field like Tony Gwynn. Omar Narvaez didn't do much with the bat, but you can't expect too much from those portly catcher types.

Interested in "finding Nimmo"? He's probably
at first base after yet another single.

2. Lumber Co Lumber (John, 2-0, 498 points, last week 2): John's offense went big in a victory against BOPP in Week 2. His leading hitter was ... checks notes ... Adam Frazier? Second and third were Jake Cronenworth and Bryan Reynolds, which makes you wonder what will happen when Juan Soto, Marcell Ozuna and Paul Goldschmidt start mashing. Yadier Molina popped three homers, infuriating Rich and filling Brian with glee (because he likes seeing Rich annoyed). We do worry a bit about the pitching staff, with Mitch Keller getting dumped and David Price pitching out of the bullpen. But with Aaron Nola and Joe Musgrove looking like Spahn and Sain, does it really matter?

3. Project Mayhem (Bill, 2-0, 497.33 points, last week 3):
PM was our top-scoring team in Week 2, and not just because Ronald Acuña Jr. went berserk. The kid went off for 41.5 points with three homers, a triple, a double, five singles, seven walks, a steal, eight RBIs and a whopping 13 runs scored. But we here at the commissioner's office also appreciate strong pitching, and PM delivered. Zac Gallen, Yu Darvish, Trevor Bauer and Anthony DeSclafani allowed five runs across six starts that spanned 37 innings. They struck out 43 batters in those starts. Meanwhile, Willson Contreras homered four times, which means he'll post two points in Week 3 if his pattern holds up.

We're gonna have to ask you to put a hat on, Hosmer.
4. Jon Voight's Car (Adam, 0-2, 418.67 points, last week 5): JVC looks like one of our top teams but has had bad luck in the matchup department so far. In the Week 2 loss to TIN, this club's pitching staff went 4-1 and allowed only five runs in 31.1 innings. Three of those runs were allowed by the since-dispatched "Yo" Adrian Houser. Jacob deGrom and Marcus Stroman dominated the sad-sack Rockies, and Stroman also shut down the Phillies. The production at the plate was disappointing, with only two homers hit. Eric Hosmer was the only hitter who had what you'd call a good week, but you have to figure Francisco Lindor and Nick Castellanos will heat up at some point.

5. Boogie Oogie Penny Ponies (Matt, 1-1, 389 points, last week 8): The BOPPers had a good enough week to move up three spots in the rankings but not good enough to hang with LCL. Manny Machado led the team in hitting points and stole four bases (wait, what?). Trea Turner had a nice week, and Carson Kelly hilariously homered three times, walked five times and singled once. The pitching staff was underwhelming, but that can happen when you get no double starts. German Marquez has gotten off to a strong start to the season, but ace Luis Castillo has an ERA north of 7. Freddy Peralta and Adbert Alzolay are wild cards, pun intended.

Hey, remember the time Colvin got impaled
 by a broken bat?
6. The Rookies (Henry, 0-2, 378.17 points, last week 4): The Rooks had a miserable week at the plate, and not even a healthy Cody Bellinger would have been enough to help. "Shortstop" Eugenio Suarez played the entire week and scored one paltry point (a run scored), coming oh-so-close to what the commishes lovingly call "pulling a Colvin" because of the time they picked up Tyler Colvin for a week at Coors Field and the doofus posted a zero. But we digress. Tim Locastro, Tyler Naquin and Sam Hilliard contributed nothing from the outfield, and Jonathan India did the same in the infield. Huascar Ynoa made a pair of starts but allowed seven runs in 10 innings and took a loss. On the bright side, Corbin Burnes looks like a monster, and Craig Kimbrel seems to be back on track.

7. Clemente's Bucs (Ray, 1-1, 376 points, last week 6): CB also suffered from a lack of double starts in Week 2, but it wouldn't have mattered in a blowout loss to PM. Brandon Woodruff and Chris Paddack pitched well, but Jake Arrieta and Charlie Morton did not. Amir Garrett pitched only once; did the Reds lose his number? Only four Bucs hitters reached double digits in points, which matters less in these times of daily lineup shuffling. But still. We love Josh Harrison, but you're not going to win anything if he's your leading hitter. Come back soon from the IL, Christian Yelich and Ketel Marte.

We searched for Miguel Rojas, and Google said
"Are you sure?"
8. Sunshine Carpet Cleaners (Jack, 1-1, 368.17 points, last week 10): At some point, the pitching wins are going to come for SCC. Max Scherzer got a deGrom-esqe no-decision with 10 Ks in 7 scoreless innings, and Walker Buehler pitched well in a no-decision of his own. Justin Turner was scorching hot at the plate, leading the way with 27 points. Miguel Rojas smacked four doubles and was the second-leading hitter for SCC, but no one noticed because he's a Marlin. We're still waiting for Charlie Blackmon and C.J. Cron to start hitting. Remember when Rockies hitters were valuable in fantasy baseball?

9. Arbitration Losers (Tim, 1-1, 349.67 points, last week 7): For those of you who've been around for a while, Tim "pulled a Scott" by getting a cheap W against the only team to score fewer points than his in Week 2, The Misfits. Tim loaded up on veteran hitters in the draft, and apparently they all ran out of gas by mid-April. The AL offense totaled a paltry 86 points, and 31 of them came from Starling Marte. An additional 15 came from Nolan Arenado. Michael Conforto, Joey Votto, Mike Moustakas, Trevor Story and Buster Posey failed to reach double digits. Time for a closed-door meeting with your guys, Tim. In addition, Stephen Strasburg and Johnny Cueto got hurt. Are we forgetting anything?

10. The Misfits (Reid, 0-2, 337.5 points, last week 9): The less we say about this week for The Misfits, the better. Only one of Reid's starting pitchers lasted long enough to pick up a victory — not that any of them pitched well enough to have actually earned one. The staff allowed 21 runs in 20.2 innings and totaled just 18.67 points. Did Reid draft the 1996 Tigers? (Seriously, look those guys up. Just brutal.) The Misfits' lineup was solid, though. Jean Segura led the team with 22.5 hitting points, and Kris Bryant homered three times. Will A.J. Pollock and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit enough to contribute in the outfield?
