File under: This is why we play fantasy baseball

Bill's team (Boondock Saints) is in last place with more players on the disabled list than any other team in the league.

He used all of his June moves to replace players who had been sent to the DL. That meant he could nothing when at the end of the month his shortstop (Khalil Greene) went back on the DL, one of his outfielders (Elijah Dukes) was demoted to the minors and one of his starting pitchers (Jonathan Sanchez) was sent to the bullpen.

When July started, he wanted to be conservative with his July moves so that he would remain in good position to pick a player in a potential AL-to-NL trade later this month, like Matt Holliday or Ray Halladay.

So on July 1, he uses his first July move to replace his shortstop. He sends Dukes to his bench and replaces him with his only OF option on his bench Fred Lewis, who has been relegated to pinch-hitting duties for the Giants. And with no other options available, he left Jonathan Sanchez in his starting rotation.

Monday comes, and Bill decides he can no longer live with a guy throwing 1 or 2 innings a week out of the pen taking up on his starting pitching spots. So he burns July move No. 2 to pick up J.A. Happ and released Sanchez (and not one of the TWO first basemen he has sitting on his bench, nor the aforementioned Dukes, who is playing at Triple-A).

On Thursday, Sanchez throws a no-hitter.
