Playoffs, Week 3: Friday's Roundup

It might look like a photo, but this is actually an animated GIF of Big Bart chugging around the bases.
Studs: Brandon Finnegan (R) struck out 12 and allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Bartolo Colon (FF) doubled, singled and scored twice. Who cares what else he did? That alone earns Big Sexy a spot on this list. But if you care, he fanned 6 and allowed 4 runs in a 7-inning win. Jeff Samardzija (PYB) doubled, scored, got the win and struck out 6 in 7 shutout innings. Kris Bryant (R21) hit a solo homer and a 2-run homer, and scored 3 runs. He is human, though — he committed an error. Bryce Harper (LY) had a 2-run triple, doubled and scored.

Duds: Jonathan Villar (R) went 1 for 5 with 2 more errors. Josh Bell (HE) went 1 for 3 with an error. Dansby Swanson (R21) went 1 for 4 with an error.

Dud: JT Realmuto (R21) scored a run and made an error. Dee Gordon (LGM) was 0-for-5 with an error, as was Martin Prado (FF). Chris Owings (LY) had an RBI and an error. Jhonny Peralta (PYB) was 0-for-4 with an error. Jonathan Villar (R) was 0-for-5 with his 22nd error.

Playoffs, Week 2: The Check Swing

Robbie Ray is striking out 11.19 batters per 9 innings this year.
That's better than Noah Syndergaard and Stephen Strasburg.
Semifinal matchups:
Fresh Fish vs. Hundley Eyes
The Lumbar Yard vs. Misfits

1. Fresh Fish (3,526 points, last week 1): Yasmany Tomas (28) and Adrian Gonzalez (22) led the Fish to a 186-point week, even though the result didn't really matter because Rick's team had already advanced to the semis.

2. Hundley Eyes (3,478 points, last week 2): The commishes needed a big week to overcome a deficit against LGM, and the Eyes came though. Noah Syndergaard (41) and Jean Segura (31) certainly erupted.

3. Lawyers, Guns & Money (3,416 points, last week 3): It wasn't a bad week for the Fightin' Zevons, but it wasn't enough to advance to the semis. Three players paced the team with 21 points each: Buster Posey, Addison Russell and Anthony Rendon.

4. Arbitration Losers (3,391 points, last week 4): Tim's team got 34 points from D.J. LeMahieu, and Joey Votto chipped in with 21. But former Reds legend Jay Bruce (9) hasn't done much since moving to Queens.

5t. The Lumbar Yard (3,372 points, last week 7): Adam's team punched its ticket to the semis by piling up 213 points. Bryce Harper (33) finally lived up to expectations, and Robbie Ray (yes, really) was the team's top scorer with 40 points in 2 starts. Trea Turner (29) was a monster, too.

5t. Rookies (3,372 points, last week 5): Henry's team didn't advance, but its 187-point week is nothing to sniff at. And that was with Stephen Strasburg (-7) and Jake Arrieta (9) as the team's low scorers.

Because of his disaster at Coors Field,
Stephen Strasburg is our Dud of the Week.
7. Pitch You Blockhead (3,317 points, last week 6): Only Nolan Arenado (23) and Anthony DeSclafani (21) scored more than 19 points for Scott in an inconsistent performance. Jacob deGrom (-1), Zack Cozart (1) and Josh Reddick (2) were awful.

8. Retire 21 (3,259 points, last week 9): Kris Bryant (34) and Drew Pomeranz (29) were studly for Ray as the Sons of Clemente prepared for the consolation round.

9. Misfits (3,253 points, last week 8): Max Scherzer (23) and Justin Turner (22) were Reid's top performers in the Misfits' first-round victory. Who'd have thought the 9th-place team in the rankings would make the final four?

10. Goldschmidt Happens (2,995 points, last week 10): It figures that two players from a last-place team would be the top scorers for GH. Kudos, Paul Goldschmidt (25) and Welington Castillo (23).

Playoffs, Week 2: Sunday's Roundup

We don't give relief pitchers a lot of love on this blog, but Tyler Thornburg had a heck of a day.
Studs: Bryce Harper (LY) hit a 3-run homer, singled and stole a base. Tyler Thornburg (GH) struck out 2 in 2 shutout innings and got the win. Noah Syndergaard (HE) got the win and struck out 6 in 8 shutout innings. D.J. LeMahieu (AL) homered, singled twice and scored 3 runs. Nolan Arenado (PYB) hit a pair of 3-run homers and singled twice. Addison Russell (LGM) homered twice. Julio Urias (LGM) got the win and fanned 6 in 6 shutout innings.

Duds: Jason Hammel (FF) got knocked around at Coors Field (see Arenado, Nolan), allowing 10 hits and 10 runs — 6 earned — while striking out 2 in a 3.1-inning loss. Martin Prado (FF) went 0 for 5 with an RBI groundout and made 2 errors. Willson Contreras (LY) went 0 for 4 with an error. Trea Turner (LY) went 0 for 4 with a run and an error. Dexter Fowler (R21) went 0 for 3 with an error.
