Week 5: Thursday roundup

Yasmani Grandal had a pretty good week on Thursday.

Yasmani Grandal (CM) homered twice, singled twice, scored 3 runs and drove in 8 — that's a 17-point day. Jason Heyward (CM) had 3 singles, 3 runs, a steal and an RBI. Andrew McCutchen (Rookies) doubled, singled twice, stole a base, drove in a run and scored twice. Paul Goldschmidt (SE) had a solo homer, an RBI double and 2 runs.

Justin Morneau (PYB) had a homer, 2 doubles, a single, 2 RBIs and a run. Mark Trumbo (PYB) had a 2-run homer and an RBI double and scored twice. Nick Hundley (R21) homered, doubled and drove in 3. Week 5: Tuesday roundup

At this rate, the National League is going to run out of healthy pitchers.
Studs: Shelby Miller (Rookies) threw a shutout and struck out 8. Bartolo Colon (SE) struck out 9 and gave up 1 run in a 7.2-inning win. Zack Greinke (PYB) doubled, scored, struck out 7 and allowed 1 unearned run in a 7.2-inning win. Marlon Byrd (FF) homered, doubled and drove in 4. Mat Latos (CM) gave up 1 run and struck out 6 in a 6.1-inning win.

Duds: Adeiny Hechavarria (Misfits) and Joc Pederson (PYB) each went 0 for 3 with an error. Stephen Strasburg (FF) made an error, took the loss and lasted only 3 innings before getting hurt.

Note: The Rockies and Diamondbacks were rained out again. They'll play a doubleheader tomorrow (allegedly).

Transactions: Already Zaun activates 2B Scooter Gennett from the DL and moves Chase Utley to the bench. Chateau Marmol moves SP Brandon Morrow to the DL and replaces him with Mat Latos.

Scores

Fresh Fish 30, Bryce is Right 22
Arbitration Losers 40, Misfits 20

Week 5: Monday roundup

Miss America sang the national anthem in Washington
and inspired Yunel Escobar.
Studs: Madison Bumgarner (AL) got the win and struck out 6 in 7.1 shutout innings. He also singled and made an error. Yunel Escobar (FF) went 5 for 5 with 2 RBIs and a run.

Duds: Brandon Crawford (CM) went 0 for 3 and made an error. Justin Upton (R21) singled and erred.

Note: The Rockies-Diamondbacks game was postponed, presumably because the pitchers for both teams were terrified. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader May 23.

    The Check Swing: Week 4

This guy drafted Chase Utley, too.
It's disappointment week at the FBLG blog. We'll take a look at those players who haven't quite lived up to their pre-draft billing.

    1. Already Zaun (3-1, 765 points, last week 2): The Zaunies put up the second-highest score of the week but still got taken down by the undefeated Blockheads of PYB. Matt Carpenter needed to hit a few more doubles. Next up is Soler Eclipse. Disappointment: Chase Utley is hitting .108 with 3 homers and 6 singles.

    2. Retire 21 (3-1, 757 points, last week 1): Ray's team got big Sunday performances from Tim Lincecum and Justin Upton to surge past winless Bryce is Right. The 4 combined points from Jacob deGrom and Jeff Locke didn't hurt. Next up is a battle with PYB. Disappointment: Clayton Kershaw has a 3.73 ERA and only 1 win through 5 starts.

    3. Soler Eclipse (3-1, 704 points, last week 3): A 33-point week from Paul Goldschmidt wasn't enough for Soler Eclipse in a loss to the Rookies. Blame Starlin Castro, Will Middlebrooks and Bartolo Colon — as well as the Reds, who aren't giving Aroldis Chapman many save chances. Next up is Already Zaun. Disappointment: Not that he's been bad, but team namesake Jorge Soler is sixth on the team in points scored and leads the NL in whiffs.

    4. Pitch You Blockhead (4-0, 673 points, last week 4): Scott got 59 points from Jason Hammel and James Shields, plus 65 points from the outfield trio of Joc Pederson, Mark Trumbo and Nori Aoki. Not even the error-prone Wilmer Flores could hold this team back. Next up is Retire 21. Disappointment: Many critics said Flores couldn't handle being a full-time shortstop. He's hitting .240 with 3 homers but has made 7 errors. His fielding percentage is .917.

    5. Rookies (2-2, 625 points, last week 5): Henry's top pitchers finally pitched like it, with Jordan Zimmermann and Gio Gonzalez combining for 41 points in 2 starts. D.J. LeMahieu finally cooled off (5), and Hector Rondon (6) only pitched once. Disappointment: No. 1 pick Andrew McCutchen is hitting .193 and has fewer points than Jay Bruce, Martin Prado and LeMahieu.

    6. Arbitration Losers (2-2, 617 points, last week 7): Madison Bumgarner (21) and Jon Lester (16) finally woke up in time to give Tim a victory against the Fresh Fish. Now, if only Anthony Rendon would come back from injury. Disappointment: Lester has only 1 win and a 4.71 ERA, and even the slowest baserunners are taking off at will. That's bad news in a division with Billy Hamilton, Starling Marte, Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura.

Remember when CarGo was a first-round FBLG draft pick?
    7. The Bryce is Right (0-4, 616 points, last week 6): A 1-point loss has to be a heartbreaker for Bill, who saw his young hotshot pitcher leave a game early after being hit in the head by a line drive. Would Archie Bradley have made the difference if that hadn't occurred? Disappointment: Remember when Jedd Gyorko looked promising as a rookie? He finally homered, but he's still hitting .161.

    8. Fresh Fish (0-4, 578 points, last week 10): Rick's trend of winning the championship every other year — and finishing in or near the cellar otherwise — seems to be continuing. There's a lot of talent on the roster, but there's also Jimmy Rollins, Yunel Escobar, Yadier Molina and Jonny Gomes. Disappointment: Take your pick! Rollins, Marlon Byrd, Molina... We'll go with Carlos Gonzalez, whose slash line is .200/.258/.329.

    9. Chateau Marmol (2-2, 561 points, last week 8): This was a rough week for Matt. He picked up Justin Maxwell just in time for Maxwell to slump. Ian Desmond stopped making errors, but he also stopped hitting. A.J. Pollock and Neil Walker were nonfactors. Disappointment: Walker and Matt Latos have struggled, but Desmond has been flat-out awful. He's hitting .235 with 1 homer and has made 9 errors.

    10. Misfits (1-3, 555 points, last week 9): Reid's team picked up a win against Chateau Marmol but still slipped to the bottom spot in the rankings. Pedro Alvarez and Josh Harrison combined for 1 point. A.J. Pierzynski replaced Devin Mesoraco and promptly stopped producing. Disappointment: Mesoraco has battled an injury all season but never went on the disabled list, leaving the Misfits in limbo. He's hitting .083 and has produced 4 FBLG points.

    Week 4: Sunday roundup

Tim Lincecum must have eaten at In-N-Out.
Studs: Charlie Blackmon (AL) hit 2 solo homers and singled. Julio Teheran (Bryce) got the win and struck out 6 in 6 shutout innings. Justin Upton (R21) homered, doubled twice, drove in 3 and scored twice. Tim Lincecum (R21) got the win and struck out 4 in 8 shutout innings. He also went 2 for 2 with a walk. Nolan Arenado (PYB) had a 2-run homer, a solo homer and a single.

Duds: Ryan Braun (AZ) went 0 for 4 with an error. Zack Cozart (Bryce) made an error and got hurt.

    Scores

Arbitration Losers 181, Fresh Fish 169
    Rookies 176, Soler Eclipse 160
    Misfits 144, Chateau Marmol 134
    PYB 195, Already Zaun 183
Retire 172, Bryce is Right 171

    Week 4: Saturday roundup

Jean Segura filled up the box score for Retire 21.
Studs: Zack Cozart (Bryce) hit a 2-run homer, singled twice and scored twice. Gio Gonzalez (Rookies) got the win and struck out 9 in 7 shutout innings. Martin Prado (Rookies) homered, doubled and drove in 4. Jay Bruce (Rookies) tripled twice, drove in 2 and scored. Jean Segura (R21) went 4 for 5 with a triple, a steal, 2 RBIs and a run. Dee Gordon (R21) had 3 singles, 3 runs and 2 steals.

Duds: Yadier Molina (FF), Kolten Wong (PYB), Nolan Arenado (PYB), Starlin Castro (SE), Cody Asche (R21) and Chase Utley (AZ) each went 0 for 4 with an errorAndre Ethier (Bryce) went 0 for 3 and was caught stealing.
