Week 6: Friday's Roundup

Tyler Flowers is hitting .369 this year. Who'd have thought?
Now that the Giants-Reds game finally ended, we can talk about Friday's action.

Studs: David Peralta (Q) went 3 for 5 with a double, a steal, 2 runs and an RBI. Austin Hedges (FF) homered, doubled and drove in 3. Tyler Flowers (R) homered, singled, drove in 4 and scored twice.
Dud: Kolten Wong (R) went 0 for 4 with 2 Ks and an error.

Note: The Phillies-Nationals game was rained out. They will play a doubleheader Sunday.

Week 6: Thursday's Roundup

We're just gonna keep up our theme of "Sad Closers" this week.
Studs: Nolan Arenado (PYB) doubled twice, singled, walked, scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Ian Desmond (PM) had 2 doubles, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and a walk. Zach Greinke (R) took a no-hitter into the 8th inning, eventually earning the win by striking out 11 and allowing 1 run in 8 innings.

Duds: Neftali Feliz (FF) allowed 2 earned runs in 0.1 innings to take the loss. Josh Harrison (M) walked and was caught stealing.

Week 6: Wednesday's Roundup

The Mets started Tom "Bones" Milone and actually had a chance to win until Jeurys Familia made a mess of things.
Studs: Kenta Maeda (LGM) struck out 5 and allowed 2 runs in an 8.1-inning win. Aaron Altherr (BM) homered twice, drove in 4 and walked.

Duds: Ender Inciarte (R) walked and was caught stealing. Jeurys Familia (PM) blew the save and took the loss while allowing 3 runs in 0.1 inning. Yangervis Solarte (Q) went 0 for 4 with an error.

Week 6: Tuesday's Roundup

Dud (left) congratulates Stud (right).
Studs: Kenley Jansen (CB) struck out 2 in an inning to earn a win. Mark Reynolds (PYB) homered, singled twice, walked 3 times, scored 3 runs and drove in 3 in a doubleheader. Aaron Altherr (BM) homered, doubled and drove in 3. Max Scherzer (R) struck out 11 and allowed 2 runs in an 8-inning no-decision. John Lackey (LGM) threw 7 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts to earn the win.

Duds: Jake Arrieta (FF) gave up 5 earned runs and struck out 3 in a 3.2-inning loss. Maikel Franco (BM) went 0-fer with an error. AJ Ramos (LGM) took the loss and committed an error.

Week 6: Monday's Roundup

Well, at least you can't accuse Gio of grooving that one.
Studs: Joc Pederson (Q) singled twice, doubled, scored twice and drove in 2. Carlos Martinez (AL) struck out 7 and allowed 3 runs in a 6-inning win.. and also drove in 4 runs, not that ESPN cares. Alex Wood (R) struck out 11 in 5 shutout innings for the win. Trevor Freakin Cahill (LGM) struck out 7 and allowed no runs in a 5.1-inning win against the Rangers. We're living in a world where Trevor Cahill is regularly dominating good offenses.

Duds: JT Realmuto (CB) was more of a Fakemuto, going 0-for-4 with 2 Ks and his third error of the year. Gio Gonzalez (BM) allowed 11 baserunners and 6 runs in a 6-inning loss, striking out 2. Those three homers allowed in the first were rough.

Week 5: The Check Swing

Were Chicago fans saying "BOO" or "BOO-rett? Brett Anderson isn't just our Dud of the Week.
He also posted one of the worst single-week scores in FBLG history.
1. Bodysuit Man (1017.2 points, 5-0, last week 1): We're getting a little tired of singing the praises of Can't Stand Ya after 5 dominant weeks. But here's the rundown from Week 5: Adam Duvall (27.5), Matt Carpenter (26.5), Charlie Blackmon (26) and Gerrit Cole (25) combined to score more points than 2 of FBLG's teams. On the other hand, Patrick Corbin (-4) thought he was pitching in 2016.

2. Project Mayhem (889.2 points, 3-2, last week 5): Don't look now, but Bill's team is a legitimate contender. Ryan Zimmerman (28) continues to look like the second coming of Ted Williams, and Johnny Cueto (27) did what an ace is supposed to do. Cesar Hernandez (20) is one of FBLG's top scorers, and now Ian Desmond (18) has joined an already-dangerous lineup.

3. Lawyers Guns and Money (882.3 points, 3-2, last week 4): Matt's team steamrolled the commissioners thanks to big performances from Joey Votto (32.5), Marcell Ozuna (24.5), Vince Velasquez (19) and Trevor Cahill (18). Bryce Harper (8) cooled considerably, but the rest of the team certainly picked up the slack.

4. Clemente’s Bucs (860.8 points, 3-2, last week, 6): This one went how Ray drew it up. Clayton Kershaw (25.3) and Stephen Strasburg (15.7) put up big totals on the mound, and the bats did enough to drown the Fish. Wait, can fish drown? Whatever. Aledmys Diaz (24.5) and Eugenio Suarez (24.5) must have been inspired by this blog's ribbing last week because they bounced back nicely.
It was a good week to be a Reds hitter and a terrible one
to be a Giants pitcher unless your name was Cueto.

5. Pitch! You Blockhead (848.8 points, 2-3, last week 3): We'd like to say Brett Anderson (-14.3) singlehandedly caused Scott's team to lose to AL, but that wouldn't be accurate. Still, going 0-2 with 12 runs allowed in 1.2 innings is something special. Matt Cain (-6.7) tried to out-dud Anderson, but making only 1 start held him back.

6. Arbitration Losers (833.3 points, 3-2, last week 8): Jay Bruce (26.5) and Paul Goldschmidt (21.5) combined to drive in 16 runs and lead Tim's team past PYB. Tanner Roark (18) and Michael Wacha (17) didn't exactly shine, but they put up points in their double-start weeks. However, Julio Teheran started twice and lost twice while putting up a 3 for the Losers.

7. Quirkin’ For a Livin’ (828.8 points, 2-3, last week 2): It was a disaster of a week for the commissioners, who barely reached triple digits. Only 2 hitters posted double-digit points: Ben Zobrist (14.5) and Yangervis Solarte (11.5). And 2 pitchers hurt more than they helped: Mike Foltynewicz (-2) and Matt Harvey (-1.7). Can Cody Bellinger help right the ship?

8. The Rookies (809.3 points, 2-3, last week 9): Henry got a big week from his pitchers, led by Jon Lester (28) and Max Scherzer (22), but most of the lineup didn't do much to help in a loss to PM. Although Freddie Freeman (21) and Ender Inciarte (20.5) were great, Tyler Flowers (3) was a no-show. And where was Zack Wheeler (DNP)? Was he out partying with Matt Harvey?

9. Fresh Fish (797.7 points, 2-3, last week 7): Rick's team laid an egg in Week 5 and tumbled 2 spots in the rankings. Austin Hedges had a laughable week, going 0-fer with 2 walks and 3 errors. On the bright side, Anthony Rendon (23), Jayson Werth (20.5) and Asdrubal Cabrera (18.5) did some damage with the lumber. Matt Moore (-5.7) kinda stunk, though.

10. The Misfits (675.3 points, 0-5, last week 10): It's shaping up to be that kind of year for Reid's team. Stephen Piscotty (7), Adrian Gonzalez (3), Brandon McCarthy (DNP) and Shawn Kelley (DNP) landed on the disabled list. Ty Blach (-8) might as well have.

Week 5: Sunday's Roundup

It was a day for errors and sloppy play in FBLG, so we honor it with "Butt Slide: A Still Life."
An oldie but goodie.
Studs: Giancarlo Stanton (M) homered twice and drove in 4. Jayson Werth (FF) homered twice, doubled, singled, scored 3 times and drove in 3. Eric Thames (PYB) homered, doubled and drove in 2. Freddie Freeman (R) homered, doubled, walked twice and drove in 2. Jon Lester (R) struck out 9 and allowed 1 run in a 7-inning no-decision.

Duds: Trea Turner (Q), Chris Owings (R), Curtis Granderson (R) and Dee Gordon (CB) went 0-fer with an error. Willson Contreras (LGM) singled and erred. Yadier Molina (M) walked and erred. Maikel Franco (BM) scored and made an error. DJ Lemahieu (AL) walked and was caught stealing.

Week 5: Saturday's Roundup

Tyler Anderson pitching at home against Arizona didn't SEEM like a good play, but...
Better late than never, right? The staff at the commissioner's office apologizes for the delay.

Studs: Charlie Blackmon (BM) was a homer short of a cycle and scored twice. Eugenio Suarez (CB) homered, doubled, drove in 2 and scored twice. Clayton Kershaw fanned 9 and allowed 1 run in a 7.1-inning win. Jay Bruce (FF) doubled twice, drove in 3 and scored. Ryan Zimmerman (PM) homered, doubled, drove in 3 and scored twice. Tyler Anderson (PM) struck out 10 and allowed 1 run in a 6-inning win. Tony Watson (R) struck out 2 in a 2-inning win.

Duds: Ty Blach (M) became the latest San Francisco pitcher to get blown up by the Reds, serving up 8 runs in a 3-inning loss. Patrick Corbin (BM) allowed 8 runs and struck out 3 in a 4-inning loss. Justin Bour (CB) and Tyler Flowers (R) each went 0 for 3 with an error. Austin Hedges (FF) and Kris Bryant (PB) each walked an erred. Martin Prado (FF) went 0 for 4 with an error. Brett Anderson (PYB) lasted only 0.1 inning before getting hurt. He allowed 5 runs and took the loss. Ender Inciarte (R) walked and was caught stealing.
