This week's edition of the review focuses on team MVPs for April.
1. Ryan's Rangers (993 points, 5-0, last week 1): Bill's team cruised to another win by putting up 202 points against the Fresh Fish and has opened a huge lead in the points race. Not bad for a squad with Ryan Braun and Gio Gonzalez on the bench. Brayan Pena had a fantastic debut for the Rangers, posting 21 points for the week. MVP: Carlos Gomez has been RR's top performer, but Anthony Rendon is our choice. Second on the team in points isn't bad for a 10th-round pick.
2. Danger Zaun (908 points, 1-4, last week 2): Could one of FBLG's top teams really be in danger of missing the playoffs? It sure looks that way with the Fightin' Logginses tied for last place in the standings. It was a down week for the Rich/Brian team — only Jose Fernandez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia scored more than 15 points, Aramis Ramirez and Ian Desmond combined for 9, and the outfield did little again.
MVP: It has to be Fernandez, who is FBLG's top scorer.
3. Rocky Mountain High (879 points, 4-1, last week 4): Troy Tulowitzki's 35-point week led Jon's team past Danger Zaun and up one spot in the rankings. Pedro Alvarez has been a disappointment this season, and Carl Crawford's playing time has been inconsistent. Can RMH overcome those issues and continue to improve? MVP: Lance Lynn is second on the team in points, so it's tempting to choose him. But with Tulo playing at an MVP level and 24 points ahead of Lynn, he's the right pick.
4. E-3 (860 points, 3-2, last week 8): Adam's team has heated up and posted a 59-point victory in Week 5. Allen Craig and Curtis Granderson emerged from their slumber and combined for 37 points. Matt Cain is headed to the disabled list, but it doesn't look like it will matter much: The E-3 rotation posted 59 points without him. Also, Dee Gordon continues to be a sparkplug for the Dodgers and is putting up points by the handful. MVP: Johnny Cueto is FBLG's No. 2 scorer and looks like a bargain as a fourth-round pick.
5. Fresh Fish (839 points, 2-3, last week 6): Rick's team was the latest to be victimized by Ryan's Roided-Up Rangers. Like Danger Zaun, the Fish's top two performers this week were Marlins (Giancarlo Stanton and Casey McGehee). Unfortunately, Rick's disabled list continues to grow — Hyun-Jin Ryu went down with a shoulder problem. At least Clayton Kershaw will be back next week. MVP: Stanton has been mashing from Day One and is on pace for about a thousand RBIs.
6. Tanana in the Tailpipe (829 points, 3-2, last week 7): Matt's team posted a victory against Arbitration Losers despite a poor team performance. Justin Morneau (23 points) and Christian Yelich (21) led the way as Tanana overcame a week in which aces Adam Wainwright and Cole Hamels combined for a zero. Chase Utley and Matt Carpenter combined for a paltry 11 points. MVP: Despite his off week, Wainwright has been exactly what you want out of a pitcher selected in the first round.
7. Arbitration Losers (820 points, 3-2, last week 3): Tim's Arbitration Losers have been living up to their name — they wouldn't earn much in arbitration if they were being judged on this week's performance. Tim Hudson scored 19 of AL's 122 points in Week 5, and Denard Span — gasp — was tied for the second-best week on the team (16 points). Still, Freddie Freeman posted a zero and skinny Pablo Sandoval was miserable yet again. MVP: Cliff Lee is the team's top scorer, but we'll go with the league's top-scoring catcher: Yadier Molina.
8. Pitch You Blockhead (818 points, 1-4, last week 5): Scott's team took a tumble down the standings this week, but perhaps the trade for Adam LaRoche will spark a turnaround. Hanley Ramirez and Jay Bruce combined for 17 points, and the back of the rotation didn't contribute in the loss to E-3. Neil Walker and Marcell Ozuna have been standouts, but PYB will need more offense to move back toward the top. MVP: Zack Greinke is one of only 6 players who have surpassed 100 FBLG points this season.
9. Misfits (785 points, 2-3, last week 9): It figured that Aaron Harang would wait until he's active in FBLG to turn back into a pumpkin. His minus-3 was one of many dud performances for Reid's team. Joey Votto, Everth Cabrera, Carlos Ruiz and Chris Johnson combined for only 20 points in a loss to the Rookies. Matt Kemp, Hunter Pence and Francisco Liriano have been disappointing in 2014. MVP: Charlie Blackmon is second on the Misfits in scoring and wasn't even on the roster for Week 1.
10. Rookies (768 points, 1-4, last week 10): A 155-point week got Henry's team into the win column, but the Atlanta offense hitting the skids doesn't bode well. As expected, Paul Goldschmidt led the charge with 22 points, and Juan Uribe added 17 in his first week active in FBLG since ... anyone know? With 16 points. B.J. Upton was actually the Rookies' top outfielder this week; maybe those new glasses are making a difference. MVP: Goldschmidt is a stud, but Kyle Lohse is only 5 points behind him. Did Henry find an ace in the 15th round?
