Did you know Wil Myers is the top-scoring first baseman in FBLG? |
We're at the halfway point of the FBLG regular season. That means it's time for the tough questions. Here we go:
1. Fresh Fish (1,704 points, 6-3, last week 1): The Fish got clobbered by LGM thanks to a sputtering offense and a James Shields implosion that was so ugly, Shields got shipped from San Diego to the south side of Chicago. ... With Hunter Pence hurt, Yoenis Cespedes hobbled and Matt Holliday aging, will the outfield hold up over the long haul?
2. Hundley Eyes (1,701 points, 5-4, last week 2): The commissioners got 112 points from starting pitchers this week, but the offense was awful in a loss to Arbitration Losers. Brandon Drury, Marcell Ozuna and Ben Zobrist are slumping simultaneously. ... First base has been a black hole all season; is Matt Adams the answer?
3. Lawyers, Guns & Money (1,622 points, 6-3, last week 3): Carlos Gonzalez (31) and Adam Duvall (31) led the Fightin' Zevons to another strong week. Carlos Martinez (36), Aaron Nola (27), John Lackey (21) and Kyle Hendricks (17) were outstanding again. ... Can a team win a FBLG championship without a true "ace"?
4. Rookies (1,595 points, 5-4, last week 5): Eugenio Suarez (30) heated up at Coors Field and led the Rooks to a 211-point week and a blowout victory against GH. Jake Arrieta lost for the first time in forever but still posted 29 points across 2 starts. ... Is the catching duo of A.J. Pierzynski and Tony Wolters this team's only weakness?
5. Pitch You Blockhead (1,591 points, 5-4, last week 4): The Blockheads came oh-so-close but lost to the Misfits by 7 points. Jimmy Nelson (-4) and Yasiel Puig (-2) played the role of saboteurs. Wil Myers (34), Nolan Arenado (30), Zack Cozart (28), Wilson Ramos (26) and Jon Jay (25) were outstanding. ... Is there enough pitching depth behind Jeff Samardzija and Jacob deGrom for PYB to contend?
 |
Jeff Samardzija made a pair of starts this week — they were worth 2 points and 0 points. That's why Ol' Hairball is FBLG's Dud of the Week. |
6. Arbitration Losers (1,555 points, 4-5, last week 6): A trip to Denver helped Jay Bruce (39) and Joey Votto (30) catch fire, which lifted AL to a 12-point win against Hundley Eyes. Yadier Molina (4) is slumping badly, and Curtis Granderson (7) isn't doing much. ... Can Gio Gonzalez, Tom Koehler, Robbie Ray and Junior Guerra be reliable back-of-the-rotation options?
7. Misfits (1,514 points, 5-4, last week 8): Pitching pushed the Misfits over the 200-point barrier this week. Scott Kazmir (28), Matt Harvey (24), Jon Lester (23) and Max Scherzer (22) were all impressive; Aledmys Diaz (18) was the top hitter this week. ... Will David Peralta, Randal Grichuk and Ender Inciarte continue to disappoint in the outfield?
8. Retire 21 (1,494 points, 3-6, last week 7): Other than Matt Carpenter's 34-point outburst and a 20-point outing from Drew Pomeranz, there wasn't much for Clemente's Kids to get excited about. Francisco Liriano (-4), Santiago Casilla (2) and Andrew McCutchen (3) did nothing to help the cause. ... Can Pittsburgh pitching coach Ray Searage work his magic and fix Liriano's problems?
9. The Lumbar Yard (1,453 points, 4-5, last week 9): Corey Seager (34), Daniel Murphy (29) and Jung-Ho Kang (20) busted out the lumber — see what we did there? — and got the Yard back in the mix. The slump continued for Bryce Harper (5), though, and Chris Owings (5) stopped hitting right after being added. ... Can LY make a push when Shelby Miller and Hyun-Jin Ryu return from injury?
10. Goldschmidt Happens (1,359 points, 2-7, last week 10): Charlie Blackmon (27) did his usual thing, but if Cesar Hernandez (18) is your second-leading scorer for the week — well, you know. ... Did GH manage to nab the only 4 Cubs who aren't scoring any points this year (Miguel Montero, Jason Heyward, Jorge Soler and Javier Baez)?
