Saturday's report

Heads up in the front row — of the upper deck!
STUDS: Clayton Kershaw (Silver State Sagebrushers) dominated the Pirates for 7 innings and collected 46 points this week. Justin Upton (Silver State Sagebrushers) killed the Braves with a double and 2 homers, including the game winner off future Mexican League all-star Carlos Marmol. Paul Goldschmidt (Testosteraun Braun) had a double and a homer and scored 3 runs.

DUDS: After an impressive spring, Julio Teheran (Testosteraun Braun) struggled in his debut and earned only 3 points. Ryan Vogelsong (Fresh Fish) also had a 3-point start. Ian Desmond (Lawyers, Guns & Money) homered but made his third and fourth errors of the season. Desmond is one of three players who have negative point totals this year. Ruben Tejada and Kurt Suzuki are the others.

TRANSACTION: Jedd Gyorko takes over at third base for Manwaring a Muumuu, as the Brewers placed Aramis Ramirez on the disabled list before Saturday's game.

Friday's report

The Super Glue and duct tape seem
to be holding Zack Greinke's elbow
together so far.
STUDS: Zack Cozart (Rookies) hit two homers and added a sacrifice fly, and Todd Frazier (Fresh Fish) homered twice and drove in a run with a single. Homer Bailey (Fresh Fish) struck out 6 Nationals in 6 scoreless innings and doubled. Wade Miley (Arbitration Losers), Zack Greinke (Fresh Fish) and Mike Minor (Manwaring a Muumuu) each put up 18 points with strong season debuts.

DUDS: Gee, how did the Reds end up with so many homers? Oh, Dan Haren (Lawyers, Guns & Money) was on the mound today. He allowed 4 homers and 5 sub-homers in 4 innings. Yadier Molina (Lawyers, Guns & Money) went hitless and made an error that cost the Cardinals a run — the only run scored in their 1-0 loss to the Giants.

TRANSACTION: To all of you who had Carl Crawford in the "first player on Manwaring a Muumuu to hit the disabled list" pool, be prepared to pay up.  Manwaring a Muumuu makes a conditional DL move because of Aramis Ramirez's sprained knee. Jedd Gyorko would replace Ramirez in the lineup.

Head-to-head scores

Misfits 142, Fresh Fish 135
Manwaring a Muumuu 116, Rookies 88

Thursday's report

The Marlins are on pace to
score 54 runs this year.
STUDS: Jayson Werth (Lawyers, Guns & Money) hit a three-run homer and singled. Cliff Lee (Arbitration Losers) shut down the Braves, allowing 2 hits and striking out 8 in 8 shutout innings.

DUDS: Any FBLG owners with Mets on their team. The only Mets to get hits today were Justin Turner (3) and John Buck (2), both of whom are free agents.

MILESTONE: Congratulations to the Miami Marlins, who scored their first run of the season in Thursday's 6-1 loss to the Washington Nationals. The run came on a solo homer by Justin Ruggiano, and Fresh Fish must have been pleased to see those 4 points. Unfortunately, those points from Fresh Fish's Miami outfielders were cut in half because of an error by Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton.

Head-to-head scores

We already have four tight battles this week, and the Misfits-Fresh Fish duel is closer than it looks because the Fish will get starts later this week from Matt Cain, Zack Greinke, Homer Bailey and Ryan Vogelsong.

Misfits 128, Fresh Fish 54
Manwaring a Muumuu 84, Rookies 73
Pitch You Blockhead 85, Lawyers, Guns & Money 76

Testosteraun Braun 103, Arbitration Losers 86

Wednesday's report

It's fun to pitch against the
Marlins — and fun to hit
against them, too!

STUDS: It's starting to look like pitching against Miami makes you a lock for the Studs section of this blog. Gio Gonzalez (Rookies) followed Stephen Strasburg's excellent start with one of his own, tossing 6 shutout innings and hitting a solo homer. Matt Harvey (Manwaring a Muumuu) struck out 10 Padres in 7 innings and allowed only one hit. He also added a single of his own. Martin Prado (Going Going Gonzo) had a homer and 2 singles, driving in 3 runs and scoring 2.

DUDS: John Axford (Rookies) got shelled in 0.2 inning against the Rockies, allowing 5 hits — 2 of them homers. B.J. Upton (Going Going Gonzo) is 0 for 8 this season with 5 strikeouts.

TRANSACTION: Fresh Fish place OF Ryan Ludwick on the disabled list and acquire OF Cameron Maybin, who was placed in the starting lineup.

Head-to-head scores

Manwaring a Muumuu 75, Rookies 72

Tuesday's report

Heath Bell
Only three games on day two, so there's not much to say.

STUDS: Madison Bumgarner (Testosteraun Braun) dominated the Dodgers, striking out 6 in 8 shutout innings and adding a hit and an RBI. Rockies studs Carlos Gonzalez (Pitch You Blockhead) and Troy Tulowitzki (Misfits) homered in Milwaukee, giving each of them two bombs on the season.

DUDS: I read one season preview that predicted Heath Bell would supplant J.J. Putz as Arizona's closer. That won't happen if Bell continues to pitch like he did in Miami. He allowed homers to Pete Kozma and Jon Jay, and his ERA is 81.00.  Weird that he's available in FBLG.

TRANSACTION: The Rookies move 3B David Freese to the disabled list and put 3B Chris Johnson in the starting lineup.

Monday's report

Foreigner: "You're as cold as Ike..."
Well, after the first day of the season, let's take a look at what we have.

STUDS: Chase Utley (Misfits) was a double short of the cycle and drove in 3 runs while scoring 2, and Clayton Kershaw (Silver State Sagebrushers) struck out 7 in a shutout and homered.

DUDS: Ike Davis (Lawyers, Guns & Money) and Jay Bruce (Going Going Gonzo) each went 0 for 5 with 4 strikeouts. They must be Foreigner fans.

NOTES: Ryan Ludwick (Fresh Fish) separates his shoulder diving into third base and looks likely to go on the DL. Going Going Gonzo rides three opening-day starters to put up a big point total, and the Misfits get a power surge to take a big lead on the Fresh Fish.

Head-to-head scores

Misfits 69, Fresh Fish 21
Rookies 23, Manwaring a Muumuu 16
Pitch You Blockhead 21, Lawyers, Guns & Money 20
Going Going Gonzo 74, Silver State Sagebrushers 52
Arbitration Losers 27, Testosteraun Braun 12

Proposed rule change for waiver claims

Gang, we're suggesting a rule change for how free agents are acquired.
The current setup is a first-come, first-served system.  In other words, if multiple teams wanted to pick up Old Hoss Radbourn as a free agent in the same week, Radbourn would be awarded to the owner who sent the email first.
We're proposing that players instead would be awarded based on overall standings as of Monday morning each week.  Like a real waiver system, in other words.  So if three teams try to acquire Radbourn, he would go to the team with the fewest points.

Is everyone OK with this rule change?  If anyone objects, we'll scrap it and stick with the first-come system.

Opening Day

First pitch in the National League is at 10 a.m. Pacific time Monday. Lineups will be locked in at that point, so send any changes to the FBLG email account before then or suffer the consequences.

Thanks again for an awesome draft on Saturday.
