Week 1: Friday Roundup

Rich prefers this annoyed version of Charlie Morton and wishes he would go back to being garbage.

STUDS

  • Joe Musgrove (LCL) tossed the first no-hitter of the season, the first of his career, and somehow the first in Padres history, striking out 10 Rangers for a sweet 34-point start.
  • Ronald Acuna Jr (PM) continued his torrid start, going #triple shy, adding a second doubled and driving in 2.
  • Walker Buehler (SCC) struck out 4 in 6 shutout innings to earn the win.
  • Charlie Morton (CB) struck out 7 and allowed 1 run in a 6-inning win. And one Commish laughed at the other for his Morton-related foolishness.
  • Johnny Cueto (AL bench) allowed 1 run and struck out 7 in an 8.2-inning win.

DUDS

  • Alec Bohm (CB) committed an error, and then committed another error.

Week 1: Thursday Roundup

It's a lot harder to get away with looking this ridiculous when your ERA is over 5 (2020) or 6 (2019).

STUDS

  • Edwin Diaz (TIN) struck out 1 in a scoreless inning and picked up the win thanks to Michael Conforto's HBP shenanigans.
  • Corbin Burnes (R) struck out 9 in 6 scoreless innings.
  • Craig Kimbel (R) — wait, he's good again? — struck out 3 in a 1.2-inning save.
  • Trevor Story (AL) tripled, doubled, drove in 2 and scored.
DUDS
  • Starling Marte (AL) walked and was caught stealing.

Week 1: Wednesday Roundup

LoCain still has the power stroke, mask and all.

STUDS
  • Jack Flaherty (JVC) became the latest pitcher to shut down the Marlins, striking out 6 in 6 shutout innings for the win.
  • Ronald Acuna Jr. (PM) enjoyed a doubleheader, doubling, singling twice, walking, scoring twice, driving in a run and swiping two bags.
  • Lorenzo Cain (PM) had 2 homers and 4 RBIs.
  • Rhys Hoskins (BOPP) had a homer, 2 doubles and scored twice.
  • Nick Senzel (BOPP) doubled, tripled, walked, scored twice and drove in 2.
  • Luis Castillo (BOPP) got the vaunted "Pirates Bounceback Start," striking out 5 in 7 shutout innings to earn the win. He will not be the last pitcher to get healthy against the Pittsburgh "lineup."
  • Garrett Hampson (SCC) had 2 singles, 3 steals, 3 runs, 2 walks and an RBI.
  • Josh Hader (SCC) earned a win with a 2-strikeout, shutout inning.

  • Max Fried (M) allowed 5 runs and struck out 3 in 2 innings.
  • Kenley Jansen (M) allowed a run to blow the save in 1 inning.
  • Amir Garrett (CB) allowed 4 runs and struck out 2 in 1 inning.

Week 1: Tuesday Roundup

After taking the first 5 days of the season off, the first pitch the Nats threw was launched out of the park by this man.

STUDS

  • Clayton Kershaw (TIN) - yes, another Dodgers starter on this list, don't you wish you had drafted more of them? - struck out 8 in 7 innings, allowing 1 run for the win.
  • Ronald Acuna Jr (PM) homered twice and drove in 3 runs.
  • Ryan McMahon (BOPP bench) had 3 solo homers and a double, good for 15 pointless points.
  • Freddy Peralta (BOPP bench) struck out 8 in 5 shutout innings for a win. 33 bench points for BOPP yesterday, that's rough.
  • Ketel Marte (CB) had 2 doubles, a single, a run and 2 RBIs.

DUDS

  • Willson Contreras (PM) walked and was caught stealing.
  • Jeff McNeil (BOPP) walked and erred.
  • Tyler O'Neill (M) made two errors on the same play.
  • CJ Cron (SCC) erred.
  • Will Smith The Pitcher (AL) allowed a run without getting an out to take the loss.

Week 1: Monday Roundup

That little girl has 3 fewer errors at shortstop this season than E-e-eugenio Suare-e-ez.

STUD

  • Dustin May (M) struck out 8 in 6 shutout innings to earn the win.

DUDS

  • Eugenio Suarez (R) - stop us if you'd heard this before - made an error. We're starting to think playing him at shortstop might not be the amazing idea the Reds hoped it would be.
  • Tyler O'Neill (M) was caught stealing. Not in the Mike Leake way... the normal baseball way.
  • David Price (LCL) allowed 3 runs in 2 innings of relief.
INJURY OF NOTE
  • Fernando Tatis Jr. (SCC) left the game with a partially dislocated shoulder. His status is up in the air.

  • Julio Urias (M) struck out 6 and allowed 1 run in 7 innings to earn the win.
DUDS
  • Keston Hiura (JVC) erred. I know we're all stunned.

Did you know Tyler Mahle attended the same high school as our own Brian Deka?

 STUDS

  • Zach Wheeler (R) struck out 10 in 7 shutout innings for the win.
  • Tyler Mahle (R) struck out 9 and allowed 2 runs in a 5-inning win.

  • Jake Arrieta (CB) struck out 5 and allowed 1 run in a 6-inning win.
  • Starling Marte (AL) tripled, singled 3 times, drove in 1, scored 3 runs and stole a base.
DUDS
