Ian Desmond is hitting .230 with 5 homers, 1 steal and enough errors to make Starlin Castro blush. |
Unlike Week 9, Week 10 brought some movement in the rankings. The top 4 teams remained in place, but Chateau Marmol, The Bryce is Right and Misfits moved up after posting strong numbers. But instead of looking back at the week that was, let's take the wayback machine and revisit the draft. It's time for draft-day blunders!
1. Retire 21 (9-1, 1,900 points, last week 1): All of Ray's top 8 picks are healthy and contributing, which explains why R21 is safely in first. By default, the blunder might be Round 9 choice Brandon McCarthy and his faulty elbow ligament.
2. Already Zaun (9-1, 1,817 points, last week 2): The commishes selected Tyson Ross in Round 6 to be their No. 2 starter, but he's been on the bench as often as he's been in the rotation. In the time it took you to read this, three runners stole bases off Ross.
3. Pitch You Blockhead (8-2, 1,806 points, last week 3): Round 5 choice Jonathan Lucroy has spent time on the DL, but he hasn't been a productive player when healthy. Is this really the same guy who had 53 doubles last year?

Jedd Gyorko hit .210 last season and was hitting .210 before
his demotion this season. He's now the most expensive
player in the minor leagues. |
4. Soler Eclipse (4-6, 1,647 points, last week 4): Adam took Alex Wood in Round 4, but he's been on the bench far too often for a guy who was supposed to be the No. 2 starter. We blame the Braves.
5. Chateau Marmol (5-5, 1,636 points, last week 8): Ian Desmond has been one of the NL's top shortstops for a few years, but he's been a disaster this season. Do you think Matt wonders who he could have chosen instead with his Round 3 pick?
6. The Bryce is Right (3-7, 1,629 points, last week 7): Bill chose Billy Hamilton in Round 5 and hasn't gotten very good value out of that selection. On the other hand, Round 9 choice Jedd Gyorko is playing for El Paso these days, so...
7. Arbitration Losers (4-6, 1,624 points, last week 5): Tim nabbed a couple of Nationals in Rounds 4 and 5, and they've given him 6 extra-base hits and batting averages of .208 and .212. Thanks so much, Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth.
8. Rookies (5-5, 1,608 points, last week 6): We'll give Round 2 pick Corey Dickerson a pass for being injured, so the spotlight lands on Round 4 selection Jay Bruce, who has been benched by the Rookies.
9. Misfits (2-8, 1,566 points, last week 10): It's not fair to call Adam Wainwright a bad choice in Round 2. So we'll look down a little farther and target the choices of Devin Mesoraco, Khris Davis and Pedro Alvarez in Rounds 6 through 8. That hurts.
10. Fresh Fish (1-9, 1,468 points, last week 9): How do you go from league champion to cellar-dweller in one year? Choose Stephen Strasburg (3-5, 6.55 ERA, 12.7 H/9) in the first round. Honorable mentions go to Rounds 4 and 5 choices Carlos Gonzalez and David Wright.
