Studs: Stephen Strasburg (R) improved to 7-0 by allowing only 1 run and striking out 10 in a 6-inning win. Jeff Samardzija (PYB) struck out 8 and allowed 1 run in an 8-inning win. Nice series there for San Francisco's starting pitchers. Matt Carpenter (R21) homered, doubled twice, scored twice and drove in 6. Trevor Story (HE) was a triple short of a cycle and drove in 3. Stephen Piscotty (HE) singled, doubled twice, scored twice and drove in 2. He did get caught stealing, though. Gregory Polanco (M) hit a 2-run homer, tripled and scored twice. Daniel Murphy (LY) hit a 2-run homer, doubled and scored twice.
Duds: Matt Harvey (M) got shellacked by the Nats, and his ERA rose to 5.77. He fanned 2 and allowed 9 runs — 6 earned — in a 2.2-inning loss. Brandon Phillips (R) and Matt Kemp (R) each went 0-fer with an error.
