Studs: Ryan Braun (AZ) had a grand slam, a solo homer and a single. Denard Span (CM) homered, doubled, scored twice and drove in 3. Gerrit Cole (Bryce) singled and allowed an unearned run while fanning 8 in a 6-inning win. Jordan Zimmermann (Rookies) had a 3-run single — yes, really — and struck out 7 while allowing 3 earned runs in a 7-inning win.
Duds: Kris Bryant (CM) went 0 for 3 with 3 Ks, a run and an error. Pedro Alvarez (Misfits) doubled and scored, but he also committed 2 errors. Craig Kimbrel (PYB) gave up 3 runs and got only 1 out. Wilmer Flores (PYB) went 0 for 4 with an error.
Transactions: The Bryce is Right signs 2B/3B Matt Duffy. The Misfits sign C A.J. Pierzynski, move the ailing Devin Mesoraco to the bench and waive OF Khris Davis.
