2013 Season Recap: Manwaring a Muumuu

How bad are the Mets? This man was one of the league's most dominant pitchers,
finished fifth in the Cy Young... and had nine wins.

Overview

Total points: 4,610 (1st place)
Head-to-head record: 12-6 (2nd place)
Postseason: Lost in championship round

Draft

Best picks: Matt Harvey (9th round), Shelby Miller (11th round), Jedd Gyorko (14th round), Domonic Brown (15th round)
Worst picks: Aramis Ramirez (3rd round), Jimmy Rollins (8th round), Jason Kubel (10th round)

Season highlights

Put up 258 and 216 in back-to-back weeks in May and June to grab hold of the points lead and not relinquish it. ... Advanced to championship round and went toe to toe with Arbitration Losers, but had to settle for second place. ... Led all teams in scoring from starting pitchers with 1,622, 144 more than the second-place team. ... Rotation of mainly Matt Harvey, Mat Latos, A.J. Burnett, Mike Minor and Shelby Miller was dominant much of the year. ... Also finished second in points at catcher and shortstop. ... One of league's best offenses when players were healthy, which was not too often.

In a nutshell

A classic case of peaking too soon. In the middle of the season, this team seemed unstoppable despite injuries to Aaron Hill, Aramis Ramirez, Wandy Rodriguez, Carl Crawford and Michael Cuddyer. Seemingly overnight, though, the offense went in the tank, the older players showed their age and ace Matt Harvey was injured. Muumuu stayed afloat down the stretch and eked out some close wins in the playoffs before falling in the championship round. The team run by the commissioners will be drafting from the bottom next year and expects to contend for another title.

2013 Season Recap: Arbitration Losers

"Did you catch that?" "Yes I did."
Marlins rookie pitcher Jose Fernandez did it all this year to lead the
Arbitration Losers to the title.

Overview

Total points: 4,420 (2nd place)
Head-to-head record: 10-8 (6th place)
Postseason: Won championship

Draft

Best picks: Allen Craig (5th round), Jonathan Lucroy (6th round), Gerardo Parra (16th round)
Worst picks: Matt Kemp (1st round), Johnny Cueto (3rd round)

Season highlights

Team was basically unstoppable after mid-July, winning last four games in regular season and rolling through the playoffs. ... Co-aces Cliff Lee and Jose Fernandez led the way, but pitching was solid top to bottom. ... Martin Prado's hot streak after the all-star break allowed for major positional flexibility when the inevitable injuries arose. ... A potent offense was led by Allen Craig, Matt Holliday and Jonathan Lucroy. ... Was second in the league in points at 1st base, starting pitching and relief pitching and third at catcher and outfield. ... Upset Testosteraun Braun 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs, then knocked off top-seeded Misfits 2-0 in the semifinals. ... Finally lost a week in the championship series, but won the war with a 215-point effort in the decisive week.

In a nutshell

This looked like one of the league's most dangerous teams after the draft, but injuries to Matt Kemp, Johnny Cueto, Angel Pagan, Chase Headley, Neil Walker and others kept them from their full potential for the season's first half. No matter. Shrewd moves by the owner, some players returning to health, and breakout years from Jose Fernandez, Gerardo Parra and Allen Craig led the Losers to the head-to-head title and a runner-up spot in the points race. After having the second pick in the draft and using his jinxing powers against Matt Kemp this year, we'll see how Tim responds to drafting near the bottom next year. It figures that he'll be a threat to repeat.

2013 Season Recap: Misfits

From phenom to ace to scrap heap and back to ace, Francisco Liriano
has had a roller coaster of a career. And he's still only 30.

Overview

Total points: 4,412 (3rd place)
Head-to-head record: 14-4 (1st place)
Postseason: Lost in semifinals, lost in third-place matchup

Draft

Best picks: Freddie Freeman (4th round), Carlos Beltran (5th round), Chase Utley (7th round), Marlon Byrd (16th round)
Worst picks: Bryce Harper (1st round), Roy Halladay (11th round)

Season highlights

Ace Adam Wainwright and waiver pickup Francisco Liriano led a solid rotation with a wide variety of contributors. ... After three-game losing streak early, team won final 11 weeks of the regular season to claim best record and top seed in the playoffs. ... Veteran-laden lineup (including Chase Utley, Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann) led the way, but faded a bit late in the year as injuries mounted. ... Bad luck in the postseason, as Misfits ran into red-hot Arbitration Losers and red-hot Pitch You Blockhead in the playoffs. ... Freddie Freeman had a monster year and looks poised to be a top pick next season.

In a nutshell

The league's most consistent team on a week-to-week basis, the Misfits finally succumbed to injuries and were eliminated from the playoffs by the two hottest squads and also were edged for second in the points race by a mere 8 points. It was a great season for the perennial contenders, though, as the veteran lineup produced all season and Adam Wainwright pitched like a Cy Young candidate to lead the rotation. You can always count on two things from the Misfits: they'll draft a bunch of old guys and they'll be among the leaders all year. Look for more of the same next season.

2013 Season Recap: Testosteraun Braun

There weren't many golden sombreros for Paul Goldschmidt this year.
The big doofus from Delaware was one of the league's best hitters.

Overview

Total points: 4,328 (4th place)
Head-to-head record: 11-7 (3rd place)
Postseason: Lost in first round, 5-0 in consolation round, won consolation championship

Draft

Best picks: Hunter Pence (4th round), Jordan Zimmermann (5th round), Julio Teheran (7th round), Daniel Murphy (13th round)
Worst picks: Ryan Braun (1st round), Anthony Rizzo (6th round), Juan Francisco (10th round)

Season highlights

With Madison Bumgarner, Jordan Zimmermann and Julio Teheran, had one of strongest rotations in league. .. Four-game winning streak early in the season. ... After being dispatched by the eventual head-to-head champion Arbitration Losers in the first round of the playoffs, tore through the consolation round to capture the consolation title. ... Paul Goldschmidt and Hunter Pence finished among the league leaders in points, with Goldschmidt leading the team to first place in the first base scoring rankings.

In a nutshell

A great draft netted the team Braun, Pence, Goldschmidt, Bumgarner, Zimmermann, Teheran and Murphy and the team looked like a contender. But Braun's struggles, injury and suspension left a gaping hole in the outfield, the back end of the rotation and closer struggled and catcher was a black hole. Still, Testosteraun Braun had a strong squad that hung around the top of the leaderboard all year, ended the season on a hot streak and will look to carry over that momentum to next season.

2013 Season Recap: Lawyers, Guns & Money

Patrick Corbin wasn't drafted in FBLG this season,
but after a 14-8 record and 178 strikeouts, he will be next year.

Overview

Total points: 4,242 (5th place)
Head-to-head record: 10-8 (5th place)
Postseason: Lost in first round; 3-2 in consolation round

Draft

Best picks: Ian Desmond (5th round), Jayson Werth (9th round), Hyun-jin Ryu (12th round)
Worst picks: Ike Davis (7th round), Dan Haren (8th round)

Season highlights

FBLG's other rookie squad won its first three games this year. ... Had best week of season in a 228-point effort in week 17 to topple Manwaring a Muumuu. ... Was a few points away from making the consolation finals. ... Andrew McCutchen, Jayson Werth and Yadier Molina led the offense, with Molina racking up the most catching points in the league. ... Patrick Corbin (plucked off waivers), Hyun-jin Ryu and Lance Lynn led the staff, and closer Craig Kimbrel was the top-scoring relief pitcher. ... Was second in the league in points at third base and outfield.

In a nutshell

An interesting draft strategy - closer in the 3rd round, no starters until the 6th - seemed shaky, but FBLG's newest owner dominated the waiver wire, getting big contributions from Patrick Corbin, Marcell Ozuna, Yasiel Puig, Pedro Alvarez, Anthony Rendon and Zach Wheeler, among others. Despite the additions of Puig and Alvarez and Jayson Werth's second-half explosion, too many offensive holes doomed LGM's playoff hopes, as first base, second base and shortstop were holes much of the season. Still, this team looks primed for a playoff run in its second year in the league.

2013 Season Recap: Pitch You Blockhead

This man does everything well and is one of of the league's best hitters.
But he never smiles.
If you don't believe it, do a Google image search.
It's freaky.

Overview

Total points: 4,127 (6th place)
Head-to-head record: 11-7 (4th place)
Postseason: Lost in semifinals; won third-place matchup

Draft

Best picks: Shin-soo Choo (5th round), Starling Marte (12th round), Matt Carpenter (13th round)
Worst picks: Josh Rutledge (6th round), Logan Morrison (7th round)

Season highlights

With back to the wall in first round of the playoffs, blew out Lawyers, Guns & Money to narrowly earn the win on cumulative points. ... Came out guns blazin' in the third-place matchup, winning with back-to-back 200-point weeks. ... Four-game winning streak early in the season included wins over Muumuu and Misfits. ... Outfield of mainly Starling Marte, Carlos Gonzalez and Shin-soo Choo was the league's best-scoring unit, averaging over 46 points per week. ... Also led league in points at second base and third base, both helped by late-round pick Matt Carpenter (and also, yes, by Pablo Sandoval). ... Pitching staff lacked a clear ace, but Cole Hamels, Kris Medlen, Gerrit Cole and Travis Wood led a solid group.

In a nutshell

PYB's head-to-head record was probably a little better than it should have been, but that doesn't diminish from a fine season. Carpenter and the outfield kept PYB in contention until the pitching staff got hot in the season's second half and into the playoffs. PYB will look to build a little more depth next year and probably doesn't want to hear the name "Omar Quintanilla" ever again, but this team looks like it will contend at the top for the foreseeable future.

2013 Season Recap: Going Going Gonzo

Hopefully next year these guys can keep the damn Cardinals out of the World Series.

Overview

Total points: 3,860 (7th place)
Head-to-head record: 6-12 (8th place)
Postseason: 2-3 in consolation round.

Draft

Best picks: Adrian Gonzalez (1st round), Jay Bruce (3rd round), Wilin Rosario (9th round), Jason Grilli (16th round).
Worst picks: B.J. Upton (2nd round), Ian Kennedy (4th round), Trevor Cahill (7th round)

Season highlights

Toppled Misfits in first week of playoffs before falling in week two. ... Made a great trade, adding Jean Segura for Garrett Jones and ending up with one of the league's best shortstops. ... Jason Grilli, until getting hurt, was the league's top-scoring closer. ... Wilin Rosario scored as many points as the first catcher drafted, Buster Posey. ... Adrian Gonzalez and Jay Bruce provided steady points for this team all season.

In a nutshell

The good, the bad and the ugly. We've talked about the good already; the bad largely involved lots of playing time for the two Braves you REALLY didn't want to have this year, B.J. Upton and Dan Uggla. And the ugly was a pitching staff anchored by the enigmatic Ian Kennedy and the flighty (and hard-luck) Jeff Samardzjia. Gonzo looked like a threat early but quickly fell out of contention and was left playing spoiler late in the year, nearly upsetting the Misfits in the first round of the playoffs. We'll see how they bounce back next season.

2013 Season Recap: Rookies

This 13th-round pick ended up second in the league in batting average.

Overview

Total points: 3,834 (8th place)
Head-to-head record: 7-11 (7th place)
Postseason: 2-3 in consolation round.

Draft

Best picks: Alfonso Soriano (8th round), Carlos Gomez (10th round), Chris Johnson (13th round).
Worst picks: Yovani Gallardo (4th round), Adam LaRoche (5th round), David Freese (7th round).

Season highlights

Swept season series from head-to-head champion Arbitration Losers. ... Outfielders Alfonso Soriano (398) and Carlos Gomez (397) were each a couple bloopers from 400 points. ... Late selections of Gomez and Chris Johnson turned out to be boons with highly drafted Jason Heyward spending much of the season injured and David Freese forgetting how to hit. ... Soriano's mid-August hot streak was among the season's most impressive, as he had a 49-point week, including days consecutive days of 14, 16, 6 and 11.

In a nutshell

Went with the all-aces draft - Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Yovani Gallardo in the first four rounds - but without the desired results. Strasburg was hurt and got no run support much of the year, and Gallardo was mediocre. Heyward's injuries and Everth Cabrera's suspension hurt, as did regression from Adam LaRoche, Marco Scutaro, Zach Cozart and Freese. If the Nationals hadn't taken the first 4 months of the season off and Heyward had been healthy, this could have been a very different season for the Rookies, who will look to bounce back in 2014.

2013 Season Recap: Fresh Fish

This play didn't help the Fresh Fish's chances this year.

Overview

Total points: 3,655 (9th place)
Head-to-head record: 3-15 (10th place)
Postseason: 3-2 in consolation round; lost in consolation championship

Draft

Best picks: Zack Greinke (4th round), Homer Bailey (6th round), Hanley Ramirez (11th round), Jean Segura (14th round)
Worst picks: Matt Cain (2nd round), Miguel Montero (5th round), Ryan Howard (8th round)

Season highlights

Took down eventual points champion Manwaring a Muumuu in Week 3 for one of regular season's three head-to-head wins. ... Got hot late in the season when injured players returned and won three games in consolation round to reach the consolation title game. ... With Matt Cain struggling, Zack Greinke and Homer Bailey pitched like aces. ... Team was near the league leaders in points from second base, third base and shortstop.

In a nutshell

Injuries. So many injuries. Hanley Ramirez, Zack Greinke, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Montero, Ryan Ludwick, Cody Ross, Ryan Vogelsong, Matt Cain, Ryan Howard and Cameron Maybin all missed time for the Fish this year, and that's just the ones the Commishes can remember. This team won the points title in 2012, so there's no reason to doubt they'll bounce back strong in 2014 if a few guys can stay healthy.

2013 Season Recap: Silver State Sagebrushers

Ace Clayton Kershaw "fell" all the way to third in
this year's draft; is he the 2014 No. 1 pick?

Overview

Total points: 3,601 (10th place)
Head-to-head record: 6-12 (9th place)
Postseason: 0-5 in consolation round-robin

Draft

Best picks: Clayton Kershaw (1st round), Justin Upton (3rd round), Michael Cuddyer (7th round), Brandon Belt (12th round), Jorge de la Rosa (15th round).
Worst picks: Starlin Castro (4th round), Rickie Weeks (9th round), Chad Billingsley (10th round).

Season highlights

Swept regular season series with Testosteraun Braun and Fresh Fish. ... Clayton Kershaw's 507 points led all FBLG players by a healthy margin. ... Starting rotation of Kershaw, Jorge de la Rosa, Kyle Lohse and Charlie Morton was one of FBLG's best, ranking sixth in the league with 50 points/week despite not having a fifth starter. ... Brandon Belt was one of the NL's best hitters in the second half. ... David Wright was far and away the best third baseman in the league before being injured.

In a nutshell

The Sagebrushers were crippled by injuries and underachivers, with Rickie Weeks, Starlin Castro, David Wright, Andre Ethier, Dexter Fowler and J.J. Putz all either missing time with injuries, losing their starting job or just plain putting up bad numbers. This team suffered from poor management after a decent draft, and with some care would have contended for a playoff berth. They will be under new ownership in 2014, so expect to see a lot fewer duds in the lineup next season.

2013 FBLG Wrapup

After a much-needed day of rest yesterday, the Commishes are back to wrap up the FBLG 2013 regular season.

First, we'd like to thank all of you for another awesome year. There were a few snags with new people in charge this year, but we think everything went well overall. And it was another fiercely competitive year with lots of drama. We certainly had fun, and hope everyone else did too.

The Commishes have a couple people in mind, as well. If you don't think you'll be returning next year, please let us know ASAP. We'll check in again before the season, too.

Playoffs Week 8: Sunday's report

If someone throws a no-hitter in Miami on the last day
of the season, does it make a sound?
Be sure to check back in the next day or two for your commissioner's season wrap-up. Sources inside the commish's office say there might be a special guest analyst. Is it Bud Selig? The Phillie Fanatic? Tommy Lasorda's nutritionist? Ryan Braun's pharmaceutical representative? Time will tell.

STUDS: Joe Kelly (Muumuu) might have set a FBLG record for points in a relief appearance. Kelly posted 18 points with a double, a run, a win and 5 strikeouts in 5.1 scoreless innings. Andrelton Simmons (TB) had 2 doubles, a single, a steal, an RBI and 3 runs. Jordy Mercer (PYB) was a double short of the cycle and scored twice. Evan Gattis (Rookies) hit a 2-run homer, singled twice and scored twice.

DUDS: Huston Street (GGG) had a remarkably bad day. He pitched to 5 hitters and retired none of them in blowing the save and taking the loss. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and a wild pitch. Dan Uggla (GGG) went 0 for 2 with an error. He did walk 3 times but didn't come around to score.

Consolation finals scores

Testosteraun Braun 158, Fresh Fish 51 (Braunies are the consolation champions)

Battle for second place in points

Arbitration Losers 161 (4,420 total, Losers finish second in the points race)

Playoffs Week 8: Saturday's report

Neil Walker took Bronson Arroyo deep twice.
STUDS: Justin Upton (SSS) went 4 for 5 with a homer, a double, a steal and 3 RBIs. Carlos Gomez (Rookies) went 4 for 5 with a homer, 2 steals and 2 RBIs. Adam Wainwright (Misfits) had an RBI single and got the win while striking out 5 in 5.1 shutout innings. Marlon Byrd (Misfits) hit a 2-run homer, singled twice and scored twice. Neil Walker (AL) hit a pair of solo homers.

DUDS: Something tells me Bronson Arroyo (Rookies) won't get the start in that one-game playoff against the Pirates. Arroyo allowed 6 runs — on 5 homers — and struck out 2 in a 4.2-inning loss. Edward Mujica (Fish) gave up 2 runs in 0.1 inning. Yusmeiro Petit (Misfits) allowed 5 runs and struck out 2 in a 3.2-inning loss. Chris Johnson (Rookies) went 0 for 4 with an error. Todd Frazier (Fish) went 0 for 3 with an error.

Playoffs Week 8: Friday's report

In his past 5 starts, Cliff Lee has 54 strikeouts in 39 innings.
STUDS: What a day for top-notch performances from aces! Clayton Kershaw (SSS) singled, scored, got the win and struck out 8 in 6 shutout innings. Lance Lynn (LGM) got the win and struck out 9 in 6 shutout innings. Kris Medlen (PYB) got the win and struck out 7 in 8 shutout innings. A.J. Burnett (Muumuu) allowed 1 run and struck out 6 in an 8-inning win. Cliff Lee (AL) was a hard-luck loser, allowing 1 run and striking out 13 in 8 innings. A.J. Ellis (SSS) hit a 2-run homer and an RBI single and scored twice. Jayson Werth (LGM) hit a 3-run homer, singled and scored twice.

DUDS: Gosh, I don't know. Most of the hitters in the Phillies-Braves game, I guess.

Consolation finals scores

Testosteraun Braun 90, Fresh Fish 32

Battle for second place in points

Arbitration Losers 119 (4,378 total)
Misfits 90 (4,363 total)

Playoffs Week 8: Thursday's report

Were you watching this instead of baseball? Probably a good decision.
STUD: Jason Heyward (Rookies, sort of) went 5 for 5 with a homer and 3 doubles. He also scored 2 runs.

DUDS: Pretty much all of us because most of our players are sitting the bench so these "September call-ups" can show what they can do. Which, in most cases, is nothing.

Consolation finals scores

Testosteraun Braun 81, Fresh Fish 9

Battle for second place in points

Playoffs Week 8: Wednesday's report

Carlos Gomez should have made the Duds list for acting like a punk.
STUDS: Kyle Lohse (SSS) singled and struck out 5 in a shutout win against the Braves. Ian Kennedy (GGG) scored a run and allowed 2 runs while striking out 7 in a 7-inning win. David DeJesus (GGG) was a triple short of the cycle and drove in 2 runs.

DUDS: Oh, what a day it was for Duds (especially shortstops)! Starlin Castro (SSS) doubled but made 2 errors. Brandon Crawford (AL), Ian Desmond (Muumuu), Jimmy Rollins (LGM), Troy Tulowitzki (Misfits) and Alfonso Soriano (Rookies) each posted an 0-fer and made an error. Reid's Misfits got zeros from Freeman, Asche, McCann, Byrd, Beltran and Eaton on a 6-point day. Thanks to a 7-run outing from Jhoulys Chacin, Rick's Fresh Fish posted a minus-3 for the day. Phillips, Ramirez, Frazier, Montero, Stanton and Jones combined to go 0 for 20. Ludwick and Morrison didn't play.

Week 26: Tuesday's report

Something tells me a good portion of the nation is about to be introduced
to Gerrit Cole as the Buccos enter the postseason next week.
Spoiler alert: he's pretty good.
STUDS: Hyun-jin Ryu (LGM) shut down the Giants, allowing 1 run and striking out 6 in a 7-inning win and adding a single at the plate. David DeJesus (Gonzo) doubled twice and had 2 RBIs, and it came against hte Yankees, so everyone can be happy about that. Craig Kimbrel (LGM) struck out 3 in a shutout inning to earn a vulture win. Michael Cuddyer (Muumuu) had a single, double, run and 2 RBIs. Pedro Alvarez (LGM) doubled twice and drove in 3 runs. Wade Miley (Arb. Losers) struck out 7 in 6 shutout innings in a no-decision. Jon Niese (Misfits) struck out 6 in 7 innings and singled and scored a run. Gerrit Cole (PYB) continued his torrid run to end the season, striking out 6 and allowing 2 runs in a 6-inning win and adding a 2-run single.

DUDS: The Nationals. Michael Wacha (Test. Braun's bench) came within inches of throwing a no-hitter against them, leading to zeroes for everyone but Ryan Zimmerman and his 65-foot single with 2 outs in the 9th inning. A hearty boo to Mr. Zimmerman for ruining a no-hitter with THAT.

Week 26: Monday's report

Get this man to a playoff contender!
He can only pitch his best with something on the line.
STUDS: For the second season in a row, Marco Estrada (Test. Braun) is shining brightest late in the season. Last year, pitching for BAWG, Estrada was dominant down the stretch to help his team to the head-to-head title. This year, he got the Braunies off to a hot start in the consolation finals with 6 strikeouts in 7 shutout innings for the win. He added a pair of singles at the plate. Adam Wainwright and Carlos Beltran (Misfits) were the only players on Reid's squad to show up Monday as he tries to hold off Tim for second place in points. Waino struck out 5 and allowed 3 runs in a 7-inning win, also singling at the plate. Beltran had a single and a 2-run homer. Jeff Samardzija (Gonzo), Johnny Cueto (Arb. Losers) and Charlie Morton (Sagebrushers) had strong no-decisions. Aramis Ramirez (Muumuu) had a solo homer and 2 singles.

DUDS: Oh, Rick. Here we get all excited for you to have something to play for, and a single by Brandon Phillips is the only point you get on Monday? Zeroes for Todd Frazier, Giancarlo Stanton and Ryan Ludwick and a bunch of DNPs litter the rest of the Fresh Fish roster. Frazier did it interestingly, though: a double, a run, an error and a caught stealing. Ludwick, batting behind Joey Votto (0 for 0, 5 walks) went 0 for 5 and left an astounding 10 men on base. Reid was snakebitten by Roy Halladay's dangling right arm, as Halladay left after facing 3 batters and took the loss. The injury also means the Misfits won't get a second start out of Doc this week.

The Check Swing, Week 25

Important updates after the final main head-to-head week of the season:

The last time baseball made Tim this happy.
Arbitration Losers win the 2013 head-to-head title with a 216-182 win over Manwaring a Muumuu in the decisive third game of the championship series. Our hat goes off to our former commissioner! From all us Dodgers fans in the league... at least the season wasn't a total waste for you. We kid, we kid.

Pitch You Blockhead has already claimed third place in the head-to-head competition, with Misfits taking fourth.

In the consolation round, Testosteraun Braun completed its undefeated run through the round robin format, knocking off Fresh Fish in Week 25. Fresh Fish's loss dropped them into a second-place tie with Lawyers, Guns & Money, which knocked off Going Going Gonzo. The tiebreaker is determined by points scored during the 5-week consolation round robin, and it's a nailbiter. Fresh Fish scored 159-202-157-137-129 to finish with 784, and LGM scored 170-160-110-166-157 for a total of 763. So the consolation finals, the only head-to-head matchup this week, will be a rematch of Week 25: Testosteraun Braun vs. Fresh Fish.

One week to go here in FBLG Land. This week's theme is "What do teams have left to play for?"

1. Manwaring a Muumuu (4,478 points): The Muumuu Cruu couldn't get enough from its offense in the decisive final game against the Arbitration Losers, but will happily settle for the points title and a runner-up finish in the championship series. Muumuu's outfield, a surprising strength for much of the year, compiled just 16 points in Week 25. What do they have to play for? A big week for Michael Cuddyer could give him 300 points for the year, and big weeks for Ian Desmond and Wilson Ramos could give Muumuu the points title at shortstop and catcher.

2. Misfits (4,273 points): From the too-little, too-late department: Reid's team steamrolled to a 205 last week after having already lost the 3rd-place matchup to PYB. Old-timers Chase Utley and Adam Wainwright came up big for the Misfits, as did kids Yusmiero Petit and Adam Eaton. What do they have to play for? Reid's bunch hold just a 14-point lead over Tim's gang for second place in the points race. A big week could ease some of the sting of finishing fourth in the head-to head.

3. Arbitration Losers (4,259 points): Tim is currently writing a lovely thank-you card to the Phillies clubhouse after Cliff Lee's 46-point week last week. He has also erected a small-but-tasteful shrine to the middle of the Cardinals lineup after Matts Holliday and Adams combined for 53 points. A big huge week at the best possible time for our former commish. What do they have to play for? Head-to-head title in hand, Tim is looking for another big week to overtake Reid for second place in the points race.

4. Testosteraun Braun (4,147 points): Despite bupkis from his catcher and meh from his outfield, Bill continued his Reign of Consolation Terror behind 85 points from his infield and 73 from his starting pitchers. NL MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt posted a 32-point week to lead the way. What do they have to play for? Bill appears solidly in 4th place, though he could be caught from behind by Matt if the planets align. So this week his focus is purely on beating Rick again to capture the consolation title.

5. Lawyers, Guns & Money (4,068 points): Matt gave it his best shot but fell just short of the consolation finals in his first year in the league. A pretty damn nice effort, and his team looks like a perennial FBLG contender. Lance Lynn and Jimmy Rollins - yeah, we're surprised too - led Matt past Jon last week. What do they have to play for? A huge week coupled with a collapse by Test. Braun could leave Matt in fourth place. With 435 points, Andrew McCutchen is 2 points away from being the highest-scoring outfielder in the league, and big weeks from Pedro Alvarez and Yadier Molina could leave Matt as the positional scoring leader at third base, catcher and closer.

6. Pitch You Blockhead (3,991 points): Scott's pitching waited too long to help him contend for the points title, but woke up in time to throw a scare into Manwaring a Muumuu before dispatching the Misfits to claim third place. Matt Carpenter's big week wasn't enough last week, but his season has been phenomenal. Also, Muumuu castoff Denard Span outscored Muumuu's entire outfield last week, just to add insult to injury. What do they have to play for? Scott has the second base points title locked up, but his outfield and Pablo Sandoval will be playing to wrap up those titles this week.

7. Going Going Gonzo (3,753 points): Another big week from Jay Bruce wasn't quite enough as Gonzo fell to LGM in the consolation round. Injuries to Jean Segura, Nolan Arenado and Wilin Rosario didn't exactly help, nor did Ian Kennedy pitching like he was still in Arizona. Gonzo did play a pretty huge role in the FBLG finals this year, though, as three key contributors on Arbitration Losers (Jose Fernandez, Martin Prado) and Muumuu (AJ Burnett) were stolen off Jon's bench. What do they have to play for? Bruce is the leading scorer among outfielders, and needs to hold off McCutchen and Hunter Pence to remain atop the leaderboard.

8. Rookies (3,734 points): Welcome back, Carlos Gomez! Gomez's 21-point week helped the Rookies outfield to a combined 53 in the win against the Sagebrushers. Also, Henry got an inexplicable 21 from Zach Cozart. On behalf of Joey Votto, the commissioners would like to thank Cozart for not ever hitting well when he spent the first 100 games batting in front of Votto in the Reds lineup. What do they have to play for? A big week for Gomez and a decent week for Alfonso Soriano could give the Rookies two outfielders with 400+ points.

9. Fresh Fish (3,604 points): All hail last year's champions! Left for dead by the side of the road months ago, Rick's team got (mostly) healthy and did just enough in the consolation round to earn a shot at the title. Injuries to (deep breath) Hanley Ramirez, Miguel Montero, Giancarlo Stanton, Cody Ross, Ryan Howard, Matt Cain, Ryan Vogelsong, Zach Greinke and others meant the Fish never really had a shot at the points title, but we're glad to see him still with a shot to win something. What do they have to play for? Duh. I just said it. A consolation title. This week's rematch with Testosteraun Braun is the only game in town.

10. Silver State Sagebrushers (3,481 points): The end can't come fast enough for the Sagebrushers, who have been playing out the string since about June. Hey, just like the Astros! David Wright came back from injury this week and popped a couple of homers, and Clayton Kershaw pitched like himself again. Charlie Morton has been a nice surprise in a pretty good SSS rotation this year. What do they have to play for? Ummm.... Kershaw has a pretty decent shot at getting to 500 points, so that's something.

Playoffs Week 7: Sunday's report

Julio Teheran may or may not be in this picture. We're not really sure.
STUDS: The doubleheader between the Marlins and Nationals was good for a few players: Ryan Zimmerman (Test. Braun) homered and drove in 3 runs on the day; Christian Yelich (PYB) homered and doubled twice; Denard Span (PYB) had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs; Giancarlo Stanton (Fish) homered, doubled and drove in 3 runs. Elsewhere, Andrelton Simmons (Test. Braun) had 2 homers and 3 RBIs. Freddie Freeman (Misfits) had a homer, 2 singles and 2 RBIs. Jay Bruce (Gonzo) doubled and drove in 4 runs. Norichika Aoki (Gonzo) had a double, a single, an RBI and scored 3 runs. Ace closers Craig Kimbrel (LGM) and Kenley Jansen (Muumuu) had 3-strikeout saves. Gerardo Parra (Arb. Loser) had a double, 2 singles, 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Julio Teheran (Test. Braun) was the day's pitching star, allowing 1 run and striking out 7 in a 6-inning win as the Braves clinched the NL East.

DUDS: Ryan Hanigan (Test. Braun) and Garrett Jones (Fish) completed no-point weeks despite playing nearly every day. Starlin Castro (SSS) had an RBI and an error. Will Venable (Muumuu) had a stolen base and an error.

Finals scores

Arbitration Losers 215, Manwaring a Muumuu 182 (Arbitration Losers win title 2-1)

Playoffs Week 7: Saturday's report

It's been a good week to be an ace, and Kershaw didn't want to miss the party.
STUDS: Matt Adams (homer, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) and Gerardo Parra (2 doubles, single, 2 runs) helped the Arbitration Losers extend their lead to 51 going into the last day of the championship series. Barring a miracle, it's looking like Tim is taking home the title this year. A.J. Burnett (Muumuu) did all he could, striking out 12 and allowing 2 earned runs in a 7-inning win. Clayton Kershaw (SSS) struck out 10 in 7 shutout innings and added a single and a run. Matt Garza (Gonzo) and Lance Lynn (LGM) both put up 17-point starts.

DUDS: Joey Votto (Muumuu) continued his up and down season, singling and making an error when his team needed him most. Muumuu finished with 2 combined offensive points on the day. Ryan Vogelsong (Fish) allowed 5 earned runs and struck out 1 in a 5-inning loss.

Finals scores

Arbitration Losers 193, Manwaring a Muumuu 142 (series tied at 1)

Playoffs Week 7: Friday's report

At least one guy on Manwaring a Muumuu showed up this week.
With two days left in the week, Arbitration Losers maintain a 46-point lead in the championship finals against Manwaring a Muumuu. Time is running out for the Muumuu Nine.

Fresh Fish trails by 38 in their attempt to lock up the second spot in the consolation finals. In the event that Fresh Fish loses, they will fall into a tie with the winner of Going Going Gonzo and Lawyers, Guns & Money, which Gonzo currently leads by a single point. In that event, the team that advances to face Testosteraun Braun will be determined by points scored during the playoffs.

STUDS: Jordan Zimmermann (Test. Braun) went the distance, striking out 9 in a 2-hit shutout and scoring a run as the Nationals dominated the Marlins. Matt Adams (Arb. Losers) bounced back from an injury had an 800-foot home run among his 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Aramis Ramirez (Muumuu) had 2 singles, a home run and 5 RBIs. Daniel Murphy had 3 singles, 3 runs an RBI and a stolen base. Matt Carpenter (single, 2 doubles, 2 runs) and Denard Span (single, triple, 2 RBIs) had nice days for PYB. Chris Johnson (Rookies) singled, doubled, homered and drove in 2 runs. David DeJesus (Gonzo) had 3 singles, a double and 2 RBIs, including the game-winning hit.

DUDS: Hunter Pence (Test. Braun) was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts and a caught stealing. Pablo Sandoval (PYB) was 0 for 3 with an error. Mat Latos (Muumuu) came up small in the spotlight, allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 1 in a 6-inning no decision. Edward Mujica (Fresh Fish) allowed 2 earned runs in 0.1 innings.

Finals scores

Arbitration Losers 164, Manwaring a Muumuu 118 (series tied at 1)

Playoffs Week 7: Thursday's report

Since he's a Giant, we'll put his picture in here, but it won't be flattering. Sorry.
STUDS: Hanley Ramirez (Fresh Fish) had 2 homers, 2 singles, 4 RBIs (and an error) to help the Dodgers top the Diamondbacks and become the first team to clinch a playoff spot. A.J. Ellis (SSS) was a triple shy of the cycle, and his homer was the decisive run for the Dodgers. Gerrit Cole (PYB) became the latest in a long line of pitchers to dominate the Padres, striking out 12 and allowing one run in a 6-inning win. Speaking of teams that often get dominated, Madison Bumgarner (Test. Braun) allowed 1 run in 7 innings and struck out 10 to shut down the Mets.

Martin Prado (single, triple, 2 RBIs) and Matt Holliday (3 singles, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) helped Tim's Arbitration Losers take a 49-point lead in the decisive third game of the championship series over Team Muumuu. Muumuu's only hope, given its sputtering offense, is that it has 4 pitchers scheduled to make starts over the weekend. Will it be enough to overcome the deficit?

DUDS: Ian Kennedy (Gonzo) got shellacked by the Pirates, allowing 6 earned and striking out 2 in a 3.2-inning loss, and helping Gonzo to a minus-2 point day overall. Matt Carpenter (PYB) was 0 for 6 with 2 strikeouts and was picked off first base. Chase Headley (Arb. Losers) was 0 for 4 with a K, 5 men left on base and an error.

Finals scores

Arbitration Losers 140, Manwaring a Muumuu 91 (series tied at 1)

Playoffs Week 7: Wednesday's report

STUDS: Adam Wainwright (Misfits) continued the trend of "aces who pitch good and also hit good too," striking out 8 and allowing 3 earned runs in 7.2 innings for a win, and also going 3 for 3 with a double, a run and 2 RBIs. Paul Goldschmidt (Test. Braun) had a 2-run homer, a single and a steal as the Diamondbacks kept the Dodgers from clinching the NL West for at least another day. Charlie Morton (SSS) struck out 9 and allowed one run in 8 innings for a no-decision, as the Pirates bullpen couldn't hold the lead. Jay Bruce (Gonzo) continued his torrid week by showing the good possibilities of extra-inning games: he had 3 doubles and 3 RBIs. Yasiel Puig (LGM) homered and doubled.

Did someone say Fat Albert? Or was it Matt Albers?
Oh, sorry, that was Matt Adams. Hey hey hey!
DUDS: Other Reds showed the bad possibilities of extra-inning games: Brandon Phillips (Fresh Fish) was 0 for 7 with 7 men left on base; not to be outdone, Ryan Ludwick (Fresh Fish) was 0 for 6 with an RBI and 9 left on base. Oh, and this was mostly against the Astros' historically bad bullpen. Sergio Romo (Test. Braun) blew a save (against the Mets, so it's doubly horrible), allowing 2 earned runs in 0.1 innings and taking the loss. Freddie Freeman (Misfits) was 0 for 4 with an error. Matt Adams (Arb. Losers) was 0 for 3 with an error before leaving with an injury, further depleting the Losers and Cardinals at first base.

Finals scores

Arbitration Losers 120, Manwaring a Muumuu 82 (series tied at 1)

Third-place series scores

Misfits 101, Pitch You Blockhead 53 (PYB has already won series 2-0)

Playoffs Week 7: Tuesday's report

Holliday! Celebrate! So far, Matt has enjoyed his trip
back to Coors Field, his old stomping grounds.
STUDS: The hits just keep coming for Arbitration Losers, who have a remarkable 100 points this week after just two days. A day after Cliff Lee set the bar impossibly high, rotation-mate Mike Leake merely struck out 6 in 8 shutout innings to continue the Reds'/Arbitration Losers' domination of the Astros. Tim's outfielders Matt Holliday (4 for 4, double, homer, 3 RBIs) and Angel Pagan (3 for 3, triple, homer, 3 RBIs) put up 11 points each. Other teams had guys do well, too. Matt Carpenter (PYB) continued his amazing season, getting 3 hits, 2 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. Carlos Gomez (Rookies) had a homer and 3 RBIs. Jay Bruce (Gonzo) had a grand slam and an RBI single. Chase Utley (Misfits) had a 3-run homer among 3 hits. Zach Greinke (Fish) allowed 2 earned and struck out 5 in 6 innings for the win, also walking and scoring a run. Jim Henderson (Misfits) struck out 2 in a scoreless inning to earn a vulture win.

DUDS: Shortstops Andrelton Simmons (Test. Braun) and Ian Desmond (Muumuu) each committed errors in both games of a doubleheader. At least Desmond had an RBI double; Simmons did nothing much at the plate AND his first error cost the Braves the game. Speaking of that, Craig Kimbrel (LGM) took the loss for the Braves, allowing 2 earned and striking out no one in 0.1 innings. Brandon Crawford (Arb. Losers) didn't get the memo from Tim, apparently, and had a single and an error. Patrick Corbin (LGM) was shelled by the Dodgers, allowing 6 earned runs and striking out 1 in 2 innings. Brian McCann (Misfits) had a single and an error. Jean Segura (Gonzo) was 0 for 4 and was caught stealing.

Finals scores

Arbitration Losers 100, Manwaring a Muumuu 69 (series tied at 1)

Playoffs Week 7: Monday's report

Just two weeks to go in the FBLG season, folks. The championship duel between Manwaring a Muumuu and Arbitration Losers heads to its decisive third week, and is already off to a crazy start.

Behind some dynamite starting pitching, Pitch You Blockhead has already wrapped up third place in the head-to-head matchups, with Misfits taking fourth.

In the consolation playoffs, Testosteraun Braun is 4-0 and has clinched a spot in next week's consolation finals. Fresh Fish is 3-1 and can advance with a win this week. Needing a win and some help are 2-2 Going Going Gonzo and Lawyers, Guns & Money, who face each other this week.

Muumuu has wrapped up the overall points title with Arbitration Losers and Misfits in a duel for second. Testosteraun Braun and Lawyers, Guns & Money are still in the running for fourth place. Top four in the overall win prizes, as do the top four in the head-to-head and the consolation champions. So still lots to play for.

OK, to the daily report...

It's one thing when this guy dominates with his left arm.
But it's plain demoralizing when he does it with his bat.
STUDS: Normally when a guy throws a 1-hit shutout with 7 strikeouts and faces the minimum 27 batters, he's the stud of the day. Oh, and let's not forget that he stole a base and scored a run too. AND he did it pitching for an FBLG title-contending team. Despite that effort for Andrew Cashner (Manwaring a Muumuu), the day's best performance was clearly from FBLG championship series foe Cliff Lee (Arbitration Losers). All Lee did was strike out 14 and allow 2 runs in 8 innings, as well as hitting a triple, 2 singles, scoring a run and driving in 4. His 35-point day is the highest individual mark of the season, and came at a key time for Tim. FBLG teammate Johnny Cueto came off the DL to strike out 5 in 5 shutout innings for a win. Zach Cozart (Rookies) had a 2-run homer and a 2-run single. Jay Bruce (Gonzo) had 2 singles, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and a stolen base. Chase Utley (Misfits) had a 3-run homer and finished with 4 RBIs.

DUDS: Bad day to have Pirates in your lineup, as Cashner's performance meant zeroes for Andrew McCutchen (LGM), Justin Morneau (PYB), Russell Martin (PYB), Marlon Byrd (Misfits), Pedro Alvarez (LGM) and Garrett Jones (Fish). Hey, at least they didn't make errors. Norichika Aoki (Gonzo) was 0 for 5 with a whiff and an error. Matt Garza (Gonzo) got hammered by the Rays, allowing 6 earned and striking out 3 in a 4.1-inning loss.

NOTE: The Nationals-Braves game was canceled because of the shooting in D.C. near Nationals Park. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Tuesday.

The Check Swing: Week 24

It's Jon Gruden Week here at FBLG. Yes, it's quite a late-season treat. Let's take a look at each team, and then Coach Jon will provide his baffling, incoherent thoughts.

1. Manwaring a Muumuu (4,296 points): The Muumuu crew got a huge week from Wilson Ramos to stay alive in the battle for the playoff title. Carl Crawford and Aramis Ramirez are dinged, and Buster Posey is riding the pine. Can the pitchers step up in a week full of double starts? Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Keith Richards" because he seems to be on his last legs but he keeps plugging along.

2. Misfits (4,066 points): Reid's team went cold at the wrong time and will settle for fourth place in the playoffs. The bigger deal is trying to hold off the Arbitration Losers for second place in the points battle. Somebody wake up Bryce Harper. Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Blues Brothers" because he ran out of gas. He'd better hurry if he wants to save that orphanage.

3. Arbitration Losers (4,043 points): Jonathan Lucroy scored negative points 3 times this week, and Neil Walker and Brandon Crawford combined for 9 points. That plus Ricky Nolasco's implosion kept AL from clinching the title. How much will the shutdown of Jose Fernandez hurt? Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "John Hinckley Jr." because he couldn't finish the job on the leader.
NFL analyst Jon Gruden is here this week to provide his
analysis of FBLG's teams.

4. Testosteraun Braun (3,966 points): Forty-seven points for Hunter Pence? Sixty-three points from Ryan Zimmerman and Jordan Zimmermann? Twenty-nine from Paul Goldschmidt? Look at the Braunies thundering through the consolation round. Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Carole King" because it's too late baby, now it's too late.

5. Lawyers, Guns & Money (3,911 points): It's been an interesting year in the LGM infield, and it doesn't appear that Anthony Rizzo, Anthony Rendon, Willie Bloomquist and Pedro Alvarez were the solution to the inconsistency problem. Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Melanie Griffith" because he looked good for a while but didn't age well.

6. Pitch You Blockhead (3,825 points): Scott got 101 points from his starting pitchers this week to beat the Misfits and finish in third place in the playoffs. The good news for FBLG is that no one has to face PYB the rest of the way. Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "George Hamilton" because he's gonna finish in third in the playoffs, and no one has more bronze than George Hamilton.

7. Going Going Gonzo (3,607 points): Jon got 21 points from his starting pitchers and zero from the disgruntled-but-beefy Dan Uggla. At least Gonzo managed to slip past the deadbeat Sagebrushers. Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Frank Wren" because he screwed up when he brought in B.J. Upton and Dan Uggla.

8. Rookies (3,580 points): Although they got slaughtered by the Braunies, Henry's guys put together another solid week. The resurgence of the Nationals certainly has helped. Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Fredi Gonzalez" because he can't wait for Jason Heyward to return to his lineup.

9. Fresh Fish (3,475 points): Giancarlo Stanton was Rick's only player to score more than 14 points. That says everything you need to know about the Fish in Week 24. Still, the Fish have a chance to advance to the consolation finals. Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Joe Morgan" because he's blatantly rooting for the Reds. I can't make a Marlins reference because no one likes the Marlins.

10. Silver State Sagebrushers (3,374 points): Ninety-eight points? Come on, Sagebrushers. How bad would it have been without Brandon Belt's 29? Gruden says: This guy, I call this guy "Lindsay Lohan" because he's an absolute mess and we've all given up on him.

Playoffs Week 6: Sunday's report

Wilson Ramos replaced the 2012 MVP
in Muumuu's lineup and responded with
32 points this week.
STUDS: Paul Goldschmidt (TB) had a solo homer, a double, 2 singles and 5 RBIs. Hunter Pence (TB) capped a 47-point week with a 2-run homer and a solo homer. Yadier Molina (LGM) had a solo homer, 3 singles and 3 runs. Wilson Ramos (Muumuu) had a solo homer, 3 singles, 5 RBIs and 2 runs. Dillon Gee (LGM) struck out 8 in 7.1 shutout innings, but in classic Mets fashion, he didn't get a decision.

DUDS: Daniel Murphy (TB) had 2 singles but committed 2 errors. He also got picked off. Andrelton Simmons (TB) went 0 for 4 with an error.

TRANSACTION: PYB benched SS Omar Quintanilla and replaced him with Jordy Mercer.

Playoffs Week 6: Saturday's report

With the exception of Freddie Freeman,
"Baby Giraffe" Brandon Belt scored more
points (17) on Saturday than any other
FBLG first baseman has scored all week.
STUDS: Brandon Belt (SSS) homered, doubled, singled 3 times, drove in 6 and scored 4 runs. Hunter Pence (TB) hit a grand slam, singled twice, scored 2 runs and drove in 7. Shin-Soo Choo (PYB) homered, doubled, drove in 3 and scored 3 runs. Gerardo Parra (AL) scored a run and had an RBI double and a 2-run double. Aaron Hill (Muumuu) had a solo homer, a 2-run single and a plain-old single. Tim Lincecum (PYB) singled twice, scored 2 runs, allowed 3 runs and struck out 6 in a 6-inning win. Kris Medlen (PYB) got the win and struck out 5 in 7.1 shutout innings.

DUDS: If Arbitration Losers end up falling in the finals to Manwaring a Muumuu, Tim can point to Ricky Nolasco (AL) as a primary reason. The right-hander allowed 7 runs (5 earned) and lasted only 1.1 innings in a loss to Tim's beloved Giants. Jonathan Lucroy (AL) came on as a pinch-hitter and struck out, then made an error. Ouch.

Finals scores

Manwaring a Muumuu 135, Arbitration Losers 131 (AL leads 1-0)

Third-place series scores

Pitch You Blockhead 193, Misfits 125 (PYB leads 1-0)

Consolation scores

Lawyers, Guns & Money 134, Fresh Fish 115

Playoffs Week 6: Friday's report

Miguel Montero's training regimen includes
running in the rain while carrying Kirk Gibson's
dentures around in a Hefty bag.
STUDS: Carlos Gomez (Rookies) had 3 singles and 5 RBIs. Miguel Montero (FF) hit a 3-run homer and 2 singles. Giancarlo Stanton (FF) hit a pair of solo homers. Wilin Rosario (GGG) scored a run and had a 2-run double and a 2-run single. Kyle Lohse (SSS) went the distance in a win against the Reds, allowing 1 run and striking out 5. Ryan Zimmerman (TB) hit a solo homer, singled twice and scored 3 runs.

DUDS: Shin-Soo Choo (PYB) went 0 for 4 with 2 Ks and an error. Chase Utley (Misfits) went 1 for 4 with 2 Ks and his 17th error — if the hit had been a homer, we'd call that a "Dan Uggla." Mat Latos (Muumuu) provided only 3 points for a desperate Muumuu club and managed to injure FBLG teammate Aramis Ramirez with a beanball. Thanks, Mat.

Um...
STUDS: Ryan Zimmerman (TB) had a solo homer, hit an RBI double and scored 2 runs. Freddie Freeman (Misfits) hit a 2-run homer, singled twice and scored 2 runs.

Kelly committed 2 errors and allowed 3 earned runs with 4 strikeouts in a 5-inning loss. Jansen blew a save and allowed 1 run in 1 inning with no strikeouts.

Playoffs Week 6: Wednesday's report

This isn't a photo. It's an animated GIF showing just how long
Jose Fernandez watched his homer against the Braves.
STUDS: No, it doesn't just seem like Cliff Lee (AL) and Jose Fernandez are making the Studs list every 5 days. It's really happening, and it's why Arbitration Losers are in position to win the playoff championship. Lee allowed 2 runs and struck out 9 in an 8-inning win. Fernandez homered and singled — oh, he also struck out 5 and allowed 1 run in a 7-inning win.

DUDS: Jonathan Lucroy (AL) went 0 for 4 with 2 Ks and an error. Adam Eaton (Misfits) walked as a pinch-hitter and was caught stealing.

Jayson Werth (LGM) homered, doubled twice, drove in 2 and scored twice. Andrew Cashner (Muumuu) struck out 7 and allowed 2 runs in a 7.2-inning victory. Shelby Miller (Muumuu) got the win and struck out 4 in 6.2 shutout innings. Alfonso Soriano (PYB) hit a 2-run homer and a solo blast.

DUDS: Jay Bruce (GGG) went 0 for 3 with an error. Tony Cingrani (Misfits) got injured and allowed 2 runs with 1 strikeout in a 1.2-inning loss. Several players came up small with performances worth minus-1: Sergio Romo (TB), Jonathan Lucroy (AL), Jorge De La Rosa (SSS) and Edward Mujica (FF).
