Week 6: Friday Roundup

Joey Votto is another classic Canadian jokester along the lines of Phil Hartman, Leslie Nielsen, Jim Carrey, Tommy Chong, Dan Ayckroyd, John Candy, Mike Myers, Will Sasso, Will Arnett, Martin Short... Who knew Canada was so funny?
Getting 4 extra-base hits in a game is impressive when
you hold the bat like this.
SUPER STUD: Willson Contreras (BM) had quite a day against the White Sox. He homered twice, doubled twice, scored twice and drove in 7. He became the first catcher with 4 extra-base hits in a game since Jeff Mathis in 2008. Ha ha, just kidding! Has Mathis ever even had 2 extra-base hits in a game? Or 4 HITS?

REGULAR STUDS: Scooter Gennett (FF) went 4 for 5 with a homer, 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Max Scherzer was excellent as usual, striking out 11 Diamondbacks and allowing 1 run in a 7-inning win. He also singled, had an RBI double and committed an error. Way to do it all, Max! Starling Marte (SG) went 3 for 5 with a homer, 2 RBIs and 2 runs. Travis Shaw (SG) went 3 for 6 with a homer and 3 RBIs. Paul DeJong (BM) homered, singled and drove in 4. Manny Pina (CB) homered, doubled, drove in 3 and scored twice. Kris Bryant (CB) homered, singled, drove in 2, scored 3 runs and walked twice. Trevor Story (M) tripled, scored and drove in 4. Lorenzo Cain (M) went 3 for 4 with a double, 3 runs and an RBI. Charlie Blackmon (PYB) was a homer short of a cycle, scored twice and drove in a run.

DUDS: Hector Neris (AL) entered the game with a 1-run lead and left with a score of -6 — against the Mets, people. The METS. Neris blew the save and took the loss by allowing a 2-run homer to Michael Conforto and a solo homer to Devin Mesoraco. Wade Davis (M) also blew a save but did so in less spectacular fashion. He served up a 2-run homer to Manny Pina and struck out 1 in 1 inning. Francisco Cervelli (PM) singled and walked, but he was caught stealing and committed an error.
