Jon Lester has a 10.32 ERA since the all-star break and has allowed 9 homers in those 5 starts. |

Do the Cardinals have a factory where they build good young pitchers like Jack Flaherty? |
STUDS: Jack Flaherty (FDD) struck out 9 and allowed 2 runs in a 7-inning win against the sad-sack Royals. Aaron Nola (PM) got the win and struck out 5 in 6 shutout innings against the Padres. Walker Buehler (M) was masterful at Coors Field, striking out 6 in 7 shutout innings; we're including him here because it's not his fault the Kenley-less Dodger bullpen blew the save and threw away Buehler's win. Tanner Roark (SG), who apparently is good again, struck out 7 and allowed 2 runs in a 7.2-inning win. Josh Hader (BM) struck out 3 in a 2-inning save. Jose Martinez (BM) homered, singled, drove in 3, scored twice and walked.
DUDS: Jon Lester (AL) got taken behind the woodshed by the Nationals, allowing 9 runs — 8 earned — and fanning 5 in a 3.2-inning loss. Matt Carpenter (AL) walked and erred.
