Ryan Flaherty's last name translates to "bright prince" in Irish. According to an article on the best Irish baseball players of all time, "As was often the case in baseball's early days, several (Irish) Chicago players led such raucous lives that their on-field play suffered." Imagine what 1879 Skip Bayless would have said? |
Studs: Evan Longoria (M) was a triple shy of the cycle and drove in 2. Ryan Flaherty (R) - the league's leader in batting average because LOL - singled, homered and drove in 4. Kenta Maeda (FF) struck out 10 and allowed 4 runs in a 5.2-inning win. Corey Seaer (AL) had 2 singles, 2 doubles, a walk, a run and 3 RBIs. Yoenis Cespedes (BM) hit a grand slam and singled. Brandon McCarthy (BM) struck out 6 and allowed 1 run in a 5.1-inning win.
Duds: "Closer" Brad Boxberger (PYB) allowed 2 runs and took the loss against the Giants. Ozzie Albies (R) singled and made an error. Anibal Sanchez (M) injured himself while running during pregame. Who says pitchers aren't athletes?
Oh no, not again: Freddie Freeman (M) was hit by a pitch in the wrist and left the game. Fingers crossed that it's not serious.
Great timing: The Reds (3-15) fired manager Bryan Price, and only a couple years too late! Former Mariners legend Jim Riggleman takes over as the interim manager while the Reds chase after glory days of yore by pursuing Barry Larkin for the full-time gig. Maybe he'll be able to tell these jerks how to hit again.
